Freemail recommendations needed!

I quite like GMX its fast to load and integrates well with stuff like outlook. There's at least one other platform that is a GMX lookalike product but I cant remember its actual name

Gmail? Or does that have the .de in it? I use mail.com just because I think Google have too much control! But people always spell it wrong and assume I made a mistake when I write it down and its actually Gmail.com

Do you have any recommendations for free (!) mail providers?
Where are you? What works for you?
