Last year in the lockdown I started walking, which lead to now jogging and running.

I go jogging at least 3 to 4 times a week in the afternoon after work. My friend who wants to get fit has asked to join me everyday. However, they can only walk at a very slow pace. We have been walking a few times and we hardly cover any distance strolling as much as I would jogging alone at my own pace

I feel incredibly guilty and selfish for thinking this; but it’s starting to get me down by feeling like I’m being slowed down. I want to keep up my fitness regime and although I’m so happy for my friend and want to encourage and help them where I can.

What would you do in this situation?
just tell your friend the truth.
just say that you are keen to keep up the pace that you have set yourself, but maybe offer to meet up one day a week if you can, maybe outside of your own running days, so you can walk with your friend and then it’s not impacting on your “fast” days?

Suggest she does Couch to 5K or something similar and that you can maybe meet once a week for a progress update

I'm a very slow walker and my run is most people's walk speed so she's almost certainly aware about it. Can you go jogging four times a week like normal and also go for a walk once or twice a week? Either on a different day or jog after you've been for a walk with her?

Alternatively is there a park run or a casual running group in your area? You could take her along to that and there will be people of all abilities/speeds and you can walk a bit before/after with her while running most of it at your own pace.
