There are so many, I couldn’t list them all, but these three songs stand out.
1) “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division. I can relate very much to the lyrics due to the breakdown of my first serious relationship, and it’s effects on my already fragile mental health.
“When routine bites hard and ambitions are low
And resentment rides high but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
Love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again.”
2) “Head Over Feet” by Alanis Morissette. It basically sums up my initial reluctance to get into another serious relationship (with my now husband), and that in the end I couldn’t help falling “head over feet.”
“You treat me like I'm a princess
I'm not used to liking that
You ask how my day was
You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault.”
3) “You’ll Be in My Heart” by Phil Collins. Reminds me of my sons and our bond. I can’t listen to it without feeling all the emotions.
“Come stop your crying
It will be alright
Just take my hand
Hold it tight
I will protect you
From all around you
I will be here
Don't you cry.
For one so small
You seem so strong
My arms will hold you
Keep you safe and warm
This bond between us
Can't be broken
I will be here don't you cry
'Cause you'll be in my heart
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more.”
