A family member has just passed away, they have a dog . Would you keep the pet because no one else will have it ? I don't want to because I have young children and I don't really like dogs but I feel bad not taking care of it. Any advice please

I would, but I’m a massive dog person. It would break my heart thinking of the poor dog losing its person then going with people it doesn’t know if rehomed or even to a rescue. Is there another family member who could have the dog if you can’t?

Take the dog to a reputable shelter so it can be re-homed. I can't see it being happy with someone who doesn't like dogs.

It's just myself

Agree completely it's not fair on you or the dog let them find a family who will love it

Could you take it in until a local rescue can re-home, if they don't have space straight away? The poor thing may be mourning and feeling lost.

I don't think you I should if you don't want it. I think people who re-home animals get too much hate I always think I'd rather the animal goes to a home where it's wanted as if it's not wanted it'll likely become more a chore. Maybe if you could keep it until a rescue/foster could be found or foster it till a home is found

There's usually charity's that do dog fostering, hopefully there is one on your area, they let people foster the dog until a home can be found, I'd check online for any charity's that can help you out, dogs aren't easy an can be expensive, it's not as if you bought the dog an then decided you couldn't keep it, so there's nothing wrong in trying to re-home it

Our beautiful family dog was put to sleep last week. We are so upset at losing her. Definitely one of the family.

So sorry it's so hard :( My dog was put to sleep last week as well, it was a very traumatic end for her.
We had been thinking it would come soonish due to health issues but we had to make a very quick decision due to something unrelated to the health issues whether to try and do something or put her to sleep

Very sorry to hear this. We also had to make a fast decision, as she appeared in a lot of pain. It is tough.

Absolutely spot on I agree

Definitely re-home OP, let the dog be happy elsewhere 😀
