(so glad I found this site!)

Dear all,

I have been using threading for years to tidy eyebrows and get rid of upper lip and chin hair.

My chin hair is now driving me mad. I nearly have to shave it everyday and defo have a 5o'clock shadow.

Yesterday, my threading lady said that waxing may be better for my chin area, what are you thoughts?

My skin is sensitive and due to shaving, it can be red sometimes, is it ok still to wax my chin? And due to shaving and threading my chin hair is coarse and thick.

I have had laser about 10 years ago and it did not work.

I am 53 and have a coil implanted so don't think it hormones.

I bought a Braun Silk-epil epilator a couple of years ago for my legs and underarms and it came with a separate epilating wand device for the face. I use that for my upper lip - works a treat.

Waxing should be fine unless you react to the wax. They used to have cold wax strips that worked well, but over time the quality got worse. There’s a hot wax option too, but this can scald your skin, and it’s hard to remove if any wax stays behind. Depilatory creams are also convenient but they can be iritating too. IPL at a good cosmetic clinic can work, but the treatments have to be repeated and it can be quite expensive, ditto for laser. I tried it all and these days I just pluck the few hairs on my chin in front of a very magnifying mirror, with slanted Tweezerman tweezers which are very good.

Hey is it really growing back daily ? This is very rapid hair growth. Have you gone to your GP about it ?

Tweezers would be best no ? Get the root of the hair out. Should last longer than a few days ! Good luck with waxing though hope it works!

Have you been checked for PCOS?
I have it and have the problems you do, I pluck everyday and epilate every other day, I fear that if I waxed it would come back worse same with threading.

Have you tried sugaring? It's a really old method and a lot less harsh than waxing as the paste sticks to the hair and not skin. X

I have soprano ice laser hair removal on the exact same area your speaking about. Amazing and a life saver, I just have top ups now every few months. They sometimes do offers groupon for it so have a look. Good luck!

IPL has worked well for me. After the initial few sessions I have to go back once every 4-6 months for a maintenance session but it’s been life changing. I used to pluck and I didn’t realise how bad my facial hair growth was until I stopped plucking in preparation for the IPL treatment - I was shocked! It’s expensive, but worth a go if you’ve tried the less expensive alternatives first and want to step it up.

Thanks for all your replies.

I think my hair feels worse than it looks if that makes sense, shaving and threading makes the tip of the hair blunt, so when I wake in the morning, I feels stubble.

Tweezers - I would have to give up work and spend the whole day tweezing!

I had the coil fitted about four years ago due to horrible heavy bleeding (flooding), I had lots of tests then, so don't think its PCOS.

About 10 years ago I spent a fortune on laser (or the like) and it never worked.

I will have a look at the ICE system and the Braun Silk Epil.

The beauty therapist recommended waxing as she said it would lessen the acutual hairs over a period of time.

xx

Saprano ice laser is a winner for me also after wasting time and money on cheaper options. It can be expensive but I always wait for offers or groupon deals. I just have it done maybe twice a year as a top up and I have very few break through hairs, I have pale skin and dark hair so I think that’s a good combo for laser.

I used to shave. Got sick of doing it daily. So started getting it waxed. She only lets me go once a fortnight, But I need to go every 5-8 days realistically. Just don’t have the time or the money for that frequency though. Considering doing back to shaving tbh

I have PCOS and have to pluck/shave my face EVERY day. I’m talking sideburns, cheeks, lip, chin, check, nose, forehead and brows. It’s totally embarrassing. I get ingrown hairs (worst thing ever for scarring) irritation and awful infections from it.

I spoke with my GP, they just gave me a random contraceptive pill. No referral to a specialist. No investigations. Nothing. I will never take a contraceptive pill again in my life! They’re the WORST for bleeping your hormones up. I came off it completely around 5 years a go.

Also, I don’t know why I even bother removing the hair, because it just grows back overnight!

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww - I feel your pain. I feel like a yeti most of the time. As for my husband stroking my face, that's a no no!

Fishflaps- ok will have a look at that, but just cant have the coil removed, I had it put in for awful bleeding and just cant go back to that.

I am so glad that I am not alone.

I pay for electrolysis on my chin - been doing it since I was 27
How old are you now? I first had electrolysis for a good 4-5 years when I was in my mid 20s (chin and upper lip), but I think the lady was having me on in the end as a friend of mine who had it done successfully said it should have cleared by then!! So I’m very suspicious!!

I have to shave my chin and side burn areas every single day, drives me mad :(.

Does it work for a yeti?

Just googled it, how on earth does it work? Looks like a torture instrument!

You fold it into a U shape and twist it over your hair and it gets trapped in the coil and pulls it. Its very effective. I have a yeti tash and its brilliant. It isn't so good at eyebrows or the odd chin hair because it rips clusters of hair out at once and with chin and eyebrows you need it more precise. If your problem is your tash then I really recommend it. For £1 as well you can't go wrong!

If you have a lot of chin hairs in the same place then it will work for it. I have about 4 that I pluck so I don't use it on my chin but it definitely can be used for that
