Some thoughts after this fp2 session: Aston look really strong, i didn't expected them that high tbh. But we will see if they can stay that high over the course of the season.
Ferrari seem to struggle which is a bit strange because they looked fine last week. The midfield looks really tight, this is exciting
AT and Williams will be at the back this season i think

Lance also needed help to get out of the cockpit (let’s be honest no surprise if he can’t use both to steer then pushing up will be painful) - could the FIA medical team require to revalue after hearing & watching him?

He should really rethink if he should be racing this weekend.

At this point he should make the decision "on his own" rather than being forced to not race. For his own egos sake I mean

He also needs to think about that this was just an hour, and he needs to be on for two hours during the race.

I get him wanting to race, but not when it's on the cost of his own and others safety...

Surely that’s not safe? What if he has to stop on track or has an issue and can’t get himself out the car?

Yes but as i said before, the drivers has to pass an extraction test where they need to be able to get out the car and put back the steering wheel in less that 6 or 7s i think. And he clearly doesn't look like he would have been able to do that at that moment. And it was "just" free practise...

Yes but as i said before, the drivers has to pass an extraction test where they need to be able to get out the car and put back the steering wheel in less that 6 or 7s i think. And he clearly doesn't look like he would have been able to do that at that moment. And it was "just" free practise...

but he probably passed the test already when he arrived and got cleared - now the big question can the FIA medical team reverse the decision and ask for a repeat after hearing and seen him struggle?

Otherwise totally agree that he doesn’t look fit to drive after the two testing sessions of 2 hours - but with the long break in between. This could further impact him also

(stupid me 15 year old with a wrist injury decided to take the cast off on time to write my final exams as I didn’t want to sit for the later 2nd date and still struggle to write for longer then a couple of moments)

damn, I am not a professional driver but I'd be scared shitless to drive my car even 50 km/h in a state that Lance is

Out of all the drivers he is one of the few that absolutely does not have to worry about his seat no matter the results. Besides, it's hand injury, looking long term, it's just better to not race one weekend and let them heal properly.

I forgot about F2 quali, so I'm watching it now It's still early in the season, we'll get into remembering drivers and times soon enough

This just looks worse and worse. Probably easy to pass the extraction test when they do them before any driving on track takes place, but this is clearly showing what effect two 1 hour practices (bearing in mind he wasn't driving for 2 full hours with time in pits etc) has had. And those practises had a few hours break in between. Sure, we are not privy to all the info, but the onboards showing how compromised his hand positions were (again only part way through a practice session) and then this obvious pain and difficulty getting out of the car really do not paint a good picture. And again, as I and others have said, it is not just his own safety compromised but everyone else on track (or in the pitlane if he couldn't control the car coming in for a stop) and I think it is an extremely dangerous tightrope to walk on behalf of both AM and the FIA.

Any other Merc fans out there genuinely feeling really annoyed and frustrated? I’ve never been one to feel like this with the engineers etc not even last year but now this whole situation is screaming arrogance at me and I hate it. They’re so focused on THEIR idea and can’t admit that guess what, it’s wrong. They’ve literally had to admit they’ve gone backwards now, it doesn’t seem to have reacted in the way they thought which probably means the planned upgrades won’t be happening. I don’t care what he says Lewis will not be staying in this sport to beef with Haas. He’ll be gone if they don’t improve and I’m so annoyed that not only could they not catch up, they got worse and got overtaken by a customer team
