Off topic a little, but I was listening to Kathy Burke’s Where there’s a Will podcast last night. Aisling Bea was the guest and she was saying pretty much the same thing about the timescale and the whole funeral ‘culture’ in IrelandMartins funeral will be the 50th live episode at this rate. In Ireland, unless there is a specific reason like an autopsy, we have them laid out and buried within 2-3 days generally.
Yeah generally there are a few parts to it. The night before the funeral is the wake where the person is laid out and basically anyone can come between certain hours to see them and pay there respects . It's usually done in their home or at the funeral home. Then there's the actually funeral and burial the following day. Sometimes they will bring them to the church the night before for prayers but that seems to happen less in recent years. Then you have the afters where you go for food/drinks after the funeral. So I guess that would be what you call the wake in the UK.Off topic a little, but I was listening to Kathy Burke’s Where there’s a Will podcast last night. I know Martin has an actual cocktail named after him at the Prince Albert but the phrase ‘Martin’s Special Cocktail’ sounds kind of dirty, like it’s the punchline to: what did Stacey, Ruby & Sonia all experience?Martin's funeral will probably be the Christmas special because even though Ruby has decided on the flowers for on top of the coffin, has she decided if she's wearing her hair up or down, a hat or no hat, will Martin's special cocktail be available at the wake or will everyone have to march over to the cocktail bar to get one?![]()
I don’t know loads about the process but our neighbours got a family member buried in 2-3 days too as their Muslims. We’re in EnglandMartins funeral will be the 50th live episode at this rate. Other cultures are interesting. I can’t remember which country but an African lady at my mum’s church told her their funerals back home can take months or years because all family must be there nmw or it can’t happencan confirm. the only funeral I've been to was a Muslim funeral and the family were pissed off they had to wait 4 days to bury the guy
She starts her theatre show 15th April so must be gone soonWe must be getting closer to ruby leaving
Yeah I believe Muslims have them very quickly too. Cremations aren't too common over here either i think there are only a couple of crematoriums in the entire country here. I'm not sure if it's a Catholic or cultural thing but I've only known of a handful of people being cremated that I know and they were all Church of Ireland.I don’t know loads about the process but our neighbours got a family member buried in 2-3 days too as their Muslims. Anyway back on topic, where the hell is little Ravi Gulati hiding?
We waited three weeks for my daughter's fathers funeral but it was because his sisters were on holiday and the rest of the family insisted on waiting for them to come home. When my dad passed away, seven years ago, we had to wait nine days for the funeral but when my grandad passed away in 1993 it was seven days, which was about standard back then. I can't believe how long people have to wait now
