E-on extra direct debit taken

I called E-ON this morning and the first message says it was an IT error & they will do their best to get it back ASAP. Absolutely disgraceful. Some families will be without because of this on Christmas. I hope that there is some sort of compensation to those who have been impacted on their Christmas Day

I guess though tomorrow isn’t a working day and neither is Saturday/Sunday or Monday so the next working day is the 29th when they are refunding anyway apparently

Appreciate this but if someone gets paid on the 29th also, it may be the difference between them having any money for the next 5 days and not, so it should be being rectified immediately as it is their error.

Yep they have taken ours today when it’s usually the 1st of the month.

aslong as they don’t try to take another payment out on the 1st aswell im Not that fussed but appreciate it is a pain in the arse.What did your bank say? You should get an immediate refund from them??

I agree but logistically im unsure if they actually can get the money returned to people before the 29th?? If the banks aren’t working from now until then?

Hey, I work for a bank and they should be able to do this under a direct debit indemnity for you. Under reason ‘amount not yet due’. Ring them again and insist, if not ask to raise a complaint x


Some people might get paid on the 29th and need the money in the interim!

Been on the phone to them again and because E-on are issuing refund on the 29th there is nothing the bank can do?! Thankfully for me it’s not going to cause any massive financial implications, it was more the principle of it, why should my money be in E-on’s pocket rather than mine, so to speak. But for others it could be a case of being able to put food on the table or not.
Just sums up 2020 perfectly.

If you call your bank today, they can do an immediate DDR indemnity claim for you, then it can be resolved with EON properly after but at least the person would have the money available to them.

Also, bank phone lines will be open the whole time and many departments will be in over the weekend/Monday. (Bank holidays are no longer really ‘bank’ holidays haha!)

I’m not affected by this whole thing but it has made me really angry for those out of pocket before Christmas. If it’s happened to you, you should demand they compensate you. It’s not acceptable.

So E-on have decided on Christmas Eve to take my January direct debit payment. I have contacted my bank about a refund under the direct debit guarantee who were as much use as a chocolate teapot.
Just wondering if anyone else has been affected?

Oh god. Eon are my new supplier as of 1st January 2021. I’ve been with British Gas for 2 years.

Are eon generally an ok supplier?

If it’s gone out this morning you can recall it the same day. Just cancel it on your online banking or mobile app and it should ask you if you want to cancel today’s payment or not

Yes this happened to us! We put a very basic amount in our joint to just about cover everything but normally have to transfer £20 or so across to cover a bit extra. Wasn’t expecting them to take that this morning as long as they don’t take another payment in January but not good for people struggling for money especially this time of the year!

That's why I went into my overdraft yesterday
I saw the payment had gone out and I didn't think that was the usual date, but didn't give it much more thought, just transferred some money to cover it. How bloody annoying! I better not be charged an overdraft fee.
