Well done to all of those who succeeded in Dry January; whether you completely stayed dry, or reduced your alcohol intake.

This thread is for those of us who would like to continue, so we can help motivate each other.

Good luck!

My booze intake for January fell considerably. But that wasn't because of self-determination, but because when I was in South Africa during most of that period, alcohol was banned by the government. So my access to it was severely reduced. However, on my return to England last weekend I did up my intake, purely out of great need.

All things being equal I will make a far more determined effort to go dry(ish) for February. Won't be perfect, but even a small reduction is better than no reduction at all.
Only 5 days into February, and I think I'm doing relatively well all things considered.

Being an alcoholic I normally drink 2 bottles of Jacobs Creek wine more or less every day! But this month I have been really trying to cut my intake, and now I'm down to just 1 bottle!

Still a long way to go this month, and I know I will falter along the way from time to time. But I keep a note of my intake on my wall calendar, and it does give me a positive vibe when I see the number "1" (for 1 bottle) against a given date, rather than "2"

I doubt I will ever get through a completely dry month, but this thread certainly gives me impetus to at least make the majority of days in a given month as dry rather than wet. So for example, come the 31 days in March it would be a big win for me if the majority of those days were dry days rather than the other way round.

Here's to trying (y)

I don’t know why but last Friday I had a bottle of wine. I felt utterly miserable the next day and now realise I really don’t like it! It makes me more anxious and agitated and I no longer enjoy the taste. So I have steered clear since and today I got up and completed my first run of 2021 and pottered about doing housework the rest of the day. I’m in bed after a milky drink and hoping I sleep soon as I want to go out for a run again tomorrow.

I just want to say thank you to who created this thread back in December. I can say that I completely stop drinking and have no intentions to go back where I was drinking wise.

So i went to the shop today for my weekend essentials and just couldn't bring myself to buy booze. I just kept thinking how shit I will feel in the mornings.

So another weekend of fizzy juice and 0% Heineken it is for me then!

I’ve decided to have some wine tonight. Haven’t had a drink since NYE but I need to enjoy some me time in the rare chance I’ve got with my son being at his dads. I will try and keep it to a couple of glasses but we’ll see. I’ve only got one bottle in the house so can’t go mad. I’m shocked I made it 45 days without a drink as it’s the longest I’ve gone in over 6 years 😱
Not lost any weight though FFS but I did seem to replace booze with choc 😂😂

Thank you so much for this thread! I’d like to do Dry Feb I think to keep going!
There’s a new Robinsons cordial (lime and mint) that if you put fizzy water in tastes like a mojito! 🥰

Hi guys just checking in. Well done everyone who’s still at it, wish I could say same 🙄

I fell off the wagon a few days last week, had a couple of beers then Prosecco on Wednesday followed by a Chinese I barely recollect eating. My jumper remembered with chilli sauce on the front though lol. We both felt shit on Thursday but made ourselves go on a 2 hour walk, which culminated in us sitting on a bench eating pies from a local deli to ease our hangovers 😂 we then, and I have no idea why really as neither of us are huge fans of it, ended up buying a bottle of gin on offer from the shop on the way home which we proceeded to drink between us Thursday and Friday. Didn’t have a drink Saturday, last night I wasn’t bothered but because it was Valentine’s Day I shared a bottle of red with my boyfriend who had been at work all day. Actually impressed at having that and being content, it was a lovely rich Shiraz. I slept fine too. Maybe that is the way forward for me rather than a load of beers or Prosecco, the problem with fizz is once you’ve opened it you have to drink it, can’t exactly save it for the next week!

Anyway thanks for listening to my confessional. I really am going to try harder this week, I’m trying to lose weight so boozing really doesn’t help or the beige food required to make me feel better afterwards! Hope everyone has a good week 😊

I’m at the point where I do want a drink but what for? I don’t actually get any pleasure from it. I’m a big gal, but after two I always feel drunk and, I know it’s a depressant so this may sound silly, it literally makes me upset like I can listen to a song and want to cry and brings up suppressed emotions from past trauma. It’s my sisters birthday so I know she’ll buy in some fizz,

So why the fook do I want a drink?! Like I’ve stated I had two days at beginning of Jan where I had a drink and haven’t since.

and it’s bloody expensive anyway for people
Like me who are right arses 🤣

i think I’m gonna enjoy a takeaway instead you know.If I’m gonna gain weight it may As well be from tasty beige foods Something that fills my gut rather than a liquid which makes me feel like utter shite for two days after.

just weird how the mind makes you crave something!

Another 1 beer evening here! Admittedly because there was only one beer to be had, but before last month I would have been straight up to the shop for more! Not doing very well at Dry Feb though 😂

I noticed that M&S do alcohol free wines yesterday, red white and rose. When I looked it said the alcohol is pressed out of them, so they still have the same taste.

I did dry Jan and then at the end found out I was pregnant so it’ll be a dry 9 months for me 😂 I’ve got some Nosecco for Valentine’s Day though and might give the M&S wine a try at some point.

Loving all the non alcohol alternatives. I do like Becks Blue. I'm normally a wine drinker, but have never found an alternative. Did buy a bottle of Seedlip gin, expensive; don't particularly care for it.

Happy Day 50 to those still going from New Year! Feeling good about another sober weekend, I wasn’t even tempted when I was offered with with dinner today... sadly my willpower with crisps was less strong but you can’t have it all.

Thank you to whoever recommended the lime and mint Robinson’s cordial, so tasty!!

I’ve just repeated the drinking risk quiz on the try dry app and I’ve gone from 8/12 in Jan to 4/12 now chuffed with that. I had a couple of drinks in Feb but that’s it so far. If I can carry on with say 2-3 days in a month I drink rather than the 2-3 a week I was before then I’ll be happy with that.

Well done everyone, like a few others i upped my chocolate intake, but I was really pleased with how i did. The impluse to have a drink when my other half does is gone, the impluse to have one at 5.30pm is gone. I did have two drinks during January but I'm not upset not to have gone the whole hog. One was during a lovely relaxing bath during self iso, the other was as part of a cocktail night for a friends bday where the cocktail sounded nice and i'd never had anything like it before so decided to have just the one; it was great. I thought i'd feel more FOMO in a situation where everyone else was drinking but I didn't. I'm not going 100% dry for Feb but I'm going to stick to weekends only and reduced consumption if i do drink (max 3 a weekend).

I’m really not feeling alcohol at the mo, which is lovely! I thought I’d miss it more. I’m still holding out for a glass of champers when my house move is sorted, but it feels a bit...pointless? I could have a Nosecco instead 😂
I’m quite sober curious though, I’ve felt so much better in myself over the last few weeks (coupled with daily exercise, plenty of water etc) and I just don’t know if I need to add alcohol back in to the mix 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really wanted to do dry January but ended up have a drink NYD & then after my first week back at work I had a drink on 8th Jan. Other than those two days I’ve not touched a drop. I am wanting to attempt the same for February, allowing myself one night as back up incase work stress etc. Well done to everyone on their journey,

I’m also over a year smoke free (cold turkey) and attempting to lose weight, slowly very slowly coming off for a mega fatty but still id like to think I’m trying my best for a healthier lifestyle!

Anyway take care everyone!
