Gleam Futures and Dom Smales

I wasn't sure where to put this thread so feel free to move it if there is a better section.

On the Zoella thread, we mentioned Dom so I thought he deserved a thread.

I am not sure why but since the beginning he has given me creepy vibes. Does anyone know what he did before Gleam? He sure got lucky with Zoella his cash cow. I feel like he has taken advantage of a lot of people. Many of his clients started off big but have never grown up and seem to have a lot of problems.

He certainly knew when to sell off gleam right at the top before brands started to see how much better value small to medium accounts were and Zoellas money making ability plummeted.

He was friends with the, less than delightful, pixiwoo sisters who I believe asked him to manage them and gleam futures was born. I guess he was already managing people before then?

I think he gave funding and "consulting services" for lots of side projects with the gleam "talent" like alfie deyes merch shop and Zoella products in exchange for being a major stakeholder. But eventually he was cut out of these.

Dom smales was on a documentary telling bare faced lies about gleam futures and how they go above and beyond the law and how frustrating it is that other talent agencies flounce then 🙄🤣

Is anyone else finding the goodbye Dom messages from influencers a tad OTT now he's out of there after the handover period: "Possibly the best human being around" o_O I can think of other people that have done far more for humanity

I don’t think he’d step away from continuing to earn silly amounts of money for very little input. He knows it’s all going downhill fast. Let’s hope that’s the case.

The with immediate effect makes it sound like he’s been forced to leave? It seems odd to me

Nah it's probably all part of the handover deal when he sold it and the time required to stay on as CEO has expired.

He cashed out at the top!

Interested to see what he does next - from all the influencer comments none of them seem to know what hes going to do next and have all had the same info as the statement.
Normally theres scandal behind a statement that includes 'standing down immediately' as if it was a planned exit they would just have him announce hes leaving to pursue other projects and his successor would be taking over in x weeks. No reason for it to be immediately and have an interim unless he's been pushed out. Unless its family reasons like someone being severely ill, which i hope not.

Probably asking a silly question but what has happened to Gleam, their website is gone and they disolved the company last summer but a recent article says they're now "an exclusive focus on elevating influencer marketing services in collaboration with Dentsu Creative UK's team". Are zoella and mrs hinch managed by some other talent team?

So from another thread the other day, someone posted they’ve shut down the influencers side of it. Alfie and Zoe set up their own ages ago. And then some of the gleam clients have gone to other agencies that their talent mangers moved too

I'd forgotten all about this guy! I remember he always seemed to have a major hard on for Tanya Burr. She was for sure his golden girl for a short while around the time of daily mix and littlewoods/very catalogue deals, and I remember him escorting them on tours of America. He did always come across as rather creepy. Like an older Jim maybe.

Thanks, seems unsurprising that the once giant gleam fades away quite unnoticed.

Dom really did sell at the right time. He knew that his "talent" with the millions of followers but yet only a few percent engagement these days with the algorithm changes were living on borrowed time.

The Japanese company should have know gleemers weren't worth much when Zoella couldn't even sell more than a couple thousand of her own books to her 15 million followers, let alone influence them to buy any crap she's paid to promote.
