Doing my own wedding makeup

I'm a Bridal Makeup Artist and some key products I'd recommend are:

Embryolisse last creme concentrate-this doubles up as a primer and its amazing!

Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder is a beautiful light foundation. You could then try the new Maybelline Super stay concealer for any areas you need more coverage.

Revolution do a great creme contour palette-i use this to add some warmth to the skin.

Set everything with Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder in translucent.

Eyeshadow wise I use the beauty bay Evolve palette alot and also the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow talk range is beautiful for Bridal-lipstick/eyeshadow/creme shadow pot etc

Ardell wispies lashes are lovely and light and not too OTT

You can buy little samples pots of foundation on ebay for a few quid, saves having to splurge on a foundation you won't wear very often.

I'm another pale girl with a bit of redness and love the nars tinted moisturiser.

Mac face & body is amazing. I would go in store to ask them for a demo but once you are shown it is easy to work with. So natural, a lot of celebrities use it as it’s really light & flawless

I had already looked into this, unfortunately there are no MAC stores anywhere near the Lake District!

Most dept stores (Fenwicks/ Browns as well) have beauty counters which will do the same

https://findation.com/. If you type in foundation shades from the brand you own, they’ll match you to similar of other brands. Then maybe go to the department store and request a sample of ones you like to try at home and how they show up in photos

I've just succumbed to the IL Makiage adverts. Honestly I'm not good with makeup, but it's great. Even a friend said my makeup looked good last night.

Normally I’ve got a couple of friends who I rely on for makeup related questions but with the whole eloping/tiny wedding thing, we’ve not told anyone and they definitely aren’t in the couple of people who would make the guest list if we do have guests

I know you want to do it yourself and it's maybe not ideal as you'd have to go in store on your wedding day but.. MAC do your make up and you get the cost of it back in products at the end. So you pay £30 to get your make up done and then choose the equivalent in products.

We eloped, and I arranged - ahead of time - for my hair and makeup to be done in the town we went to (I just found a salon in the Yellow Pages [online wasn't a thing back then]).

I recommend the Charlotte Tilbury magic foundation !

I did my own wedding make up at our micro wedding in October 2020 and I watched a few tutorials and in the end went for a really subtle sparkly eye and used the Charlotte Tilbury walk of shame palette and MAC Faux lipstick .. my advice don’t do too much out of your comfort zone , focus mostly on getting your skin right !

Recently I've been wearing less heavy make up and I've really liked the Fenty range, in particular this skin tint. I'm a freckly girl too with some redness and this just makes me look fresh and evened out but doesn't cover my feckless or look cakey at all -if I apply with my fingers it's super sheer but if I want to look a little more done I apply with a stippling brush and work it in to my skin.

Congratulations! I can honestly say, in hindsight I should have done my own make up, as I’m good at doing it and had to touch up anyway!

I cant recommend Nars sheer glow enough, perfect coverage and gives a glow. Use a translucent powder to set to ensure it doesn’t oxidise and go orange colour. Setting spray from Charlotte tilbury I is incredible! Charlotte Tilbury also has a lovely lip colour range too perfect for wedding day. Stila do a cream blush range which looks gorgeous too!

Avoid Estée Lauder double wear it doesn’t photograph well and makes you look very pale, also sets quickly.

The demi wispie lashes are lovely too, practice a few times before and use thin tweezers to apply them!

Foundations I would recommend - Mac Face and Body. Nars sheer glow. Nars natural radiant longwear foundation.
The one that will hide freckles and won’t budge all day is Estee Lauder Double Wear. It’s full coverage so might not be what you’re after but it’s the best to cover up any blemishes.

My only advice for doing your own makeup is practice, practice, practice. There are thousands of tutorials on YouTube. Watch as many as you can and really get to know your face shape, skin type and texture. Do your research on brands, products and especially tools. (Brushes, sponges, blender etc) it’s a HUGE market and can be overwhelming but just research and practice as much as you can.

I hadn’t really thought about this, not sure now I feel about not being able to have a trial (we’re a 5 hour drive away), there’s a salon close to one of our venue options though so I’ll have a look…

I think if I had foundation I liked I’d wear it more, I do get a bit conscious of it being quite uneven… but eBay samples is a great shout!

Another vote for nars sheer glow… amazing! Also Giorgio Armani luminous silk foundation sounds like it would literally tick all your boxes… really stunning foundation and not really heavy or thick. My mum wore it for our wedding as she doesn’t ever wear make up and everyone commented how nice and natural it was

Laura mercier translucent setting powder.

Get a decent eyebrow thread and tint and eyelash tint if you can.

Mac mineralise dainty blush - photographs very well

Mac peach blossom lipstick - gorge on fair complexions for wedding day make up also low maintenance and handy to top up without a mirror

Invest in a setting spray also - cant go wrong with Mac fix plus xxxx
