I can't really find much beyond his apology. Assuming he used a common slur, I find it sort of... hard... to think that he wouldn't be aware it's an issue, or someone wouldn't have told him that it was? Maybe the stuff is just more acceptable/ignored in Italy/with people he hangs around with and if it was before Eurovision, I could see it being a thing he would dismiss
Also, on the subject of his haircut
It just doesn't show his bone structure that well and he looks like a mix between a rich fuckboy and a local chav if he dressed in some trackies

There's an explanation upthread. It was a slang word for a black person that rhymes with moon. TBF it sounds quite innocuous and it's quite an old fashioned term, so for a non native English speaker, I can see how it slipped through the net. Damiano has been on BLM marches and there's a video floating round Insta of him talking about equality etc, so I personally think he was just careless rather than there being any malice about it.
Me again - I just googled the lyrics of "Coraline" to see if he was saying what I thought he was saying. Have you seen it? It's pure poetry and the last couple of verses made me cry.
