Please, please dont go abroad. Save up and see a reputable surgeon in the UK. My surgeon makes you have at least 2 consultations with him x amount of time apart before he will agree to operate, so you have plenty of time to absorb the info and come back with any questions you may have. I worry about going abroad, is the first time you see your surgeon the day they operate?! How does that give the patient enough time to really think about it? If that's the first time you see them, what if you get that feeling that you are just not happy with them, the clinic etc?! Would you still go ahead ad as have already paid the money out?

Heaven forbid if anything were to go wrong or you needed to see your surgeon, you just wouldn't be able to do that abroad. I had an issue after surgery, so emailed my surgeon on a Friday pm. He said he would open his clinic on the Saturday for me so he could check it over. Luckily it was something very minor, but when it's your body and something isn't right it is extreamly stressful. What would you do if you came home and you had a hole or an infected wound? What if the wounds aren't healing right, will you have to jump on a plane to get them looked at?

Oh and the car ride home was a wee bit painful. Speedbumps and pot holes were NOT my friend's. Re the recovery I wouldn't want to be anywhere but home.

Sorry to sound all doom and gloom, but please, really take the time to think if the money you save by going abroad is really worth it.

Imo it's not worth having it done abroad. Apart from all the risks these "cheap" surgeons offer abroad the aftercare is not great because if anything goes wrong you either have to fly back out there or pay for it to be rectified here in the UK.

If anything the only surgery you should get abroad is in places like the USA, Germany etc that will charge you the same as staying in the UK

Again problem with having in SA would be if anything goes wrong aftercare will cost a bomb.

Chances are nothing will go wrong but just in case I would pay that little bit extra and have it done in the UK

defo wouldnt consider having surgery abroad and then flying home after, you majorly increasing the health risks of DVT's and PE's. its not worth saving a few thousand pounds to put your health at risk and throwing off clots to your lungs and heart

There’s a great community on Insta where people have had surgery overseas with some fantastic results. It’s not all horror and gore. Start with leahpunch_bypassbyleah, her overseas surgery looks amazing! I followed her when I had my SW account and loosing weight and she’s one of the few I follow since binning that account and just having a private one.

I looked into going abroad (Turkey and Prague) before I had mine done the second time. Although it is cheaper, I had the same thoughts of you about recovery. I ended up having mine done here instead and just paying that bit extra (cost me around 4.5k each time).

The recovery can be quite tough, I spent a week just sitting on the sofa keeping topped up on painkillers and napping. You can’t really do much as your movement is quite restricted, so I had my boyfriend wfh to look after me. You can’t shower for that first week either as you have to keep the wounds dry so I felt pretty grim - I guess if you were put up in a nice hotel it could be ok but you definitely want to be comfortable.

I know one woman who had hers done in Belgium, she got the Eurostar. They had delays coming home which she said was quite hard although she said it didn’t put her off travelling abroad for it.

Having seen the state of stephen bears porn partners surgery in turkey I would say avoid avoid avoid, and as she is ignoring all post op care advice complications are heading her way

I've spoken with HR and they have definitely confirmed that time off for cosmetic purposes would need to be taken as annual leave... I'm guessing I might have to just sacrifice an extra week in the sun for an extra week of recovery!

Oh that’s annoying. Definitely worth it though!

I’m looking at getting a breast augmentation and thinking about going abroad for cost reasons. Can anyone share their experiences? Also costs if you don’t mind sharing? (Am only really looking for a 1 cup size implant as I’m more bothered about volume than size)

ive seen a few places than include a few nights stay afterwards but I’m struggling to understand how you’d be able to get up and on a plane a week afterwards?I have a close friend who had hers done and she struggled for weeks, but I suppose everyone is different

I'm still working from home at the moment but any time I'd need off would have to be annual leave rather than sick as it's obviously my choice... would you say that you felt well enough to work on a laptop maybe after the first week or so? I could do it from the sofa or even from my bed but I don't want to use all my holidays as I do like my trips away!

I actually got signed off by my surgeon rather than using annual leave, not sure if that’s an option for you? I asked HR first in a bit of a hypothetical situation way - they said being signed off is being signed off regardless of the reason. So then I just let my manager know and told everyone else I was having wisdom teeth removed Appreciate that might not be a thing in all companies though.

To be honest I wouldn’t have been up to working in those first two weeks, although I know other people who have gone back after one. It really does just depend on your recovery but I didn’t really feel back to normal until after those two weeks. I was due to start an online course after the first week and thought it’d be perfect timing cos I’d be at home, not working, able to just crack on on my laptop. But I ended up deferring my start date because I wasn’t well enough

I did wonder about having it done in South Africa as I have family out there and could stay with them during the recovery...but then the reason I usually visit them is to have a sun holiday which kind of defeats the object!
