only voted that I'd report my neighbours because they're arseholes. If I liked them then I'd let them get on with it 😂

Playing bingo.
A friend of ours (she is in her 60s) has had troubles with her mum (she is in her 90s, lives alone nearby, refused to move on with them). During lockdown when they were buying food for her and bringing it to her house they frequently caught her breaking the rules and having 5 to 10 other ladies in their 80s or 90s. Playing bingo, having tea and coffee, playing poker and other card games. When questioned, the mum said that she is not willing to live her last years as a hermit. The fact that everyone else had to stop their lives to protect her life didn’t matter.

First time in a while it’s been below last weeks number. Hopefully continues but could be for some fluke reason when it’s only one day obvs.

Daily Mail is running a story with this pie chart, showing where people were infected last week.

I'd wager that if the Workplace category were further broken down, the vast majority of Workplace infections will be where people are working on top of one another, such as factory production lines, and fast fashion sweatshops, rather than relatively spacious offices with regularly cleaned toilets etc.

My take-home from this would be
(1) masks for everyone in schools/colleges and care homes, and the aforementioned close-working workplaces, but everyone else should be allowed to get on with life as normal. I don't see supermarkets or cinemas or gyms or railway stations on here, so quite why they are being so restricted is beyond me (though no doubt, despite there being no actual evidence for it, someone will claim it's the masks that are keeping such places safe).
(2) remarkably low infection rates in hospitals, so their measures are working, so it's about time the NHS got back to work properly so we can start getting our routine treatments again before people start losing teeth, sight, limbs etc (I still can't get any dental treatment, I haven't had any diabetes monitoring checks since 2019, and my friend's mother is still waiting for her life saving cancer treatment to restart).
(3) Workplace reopening is not just about office worker's productivity etc. It's important to get sandwich/coffee shops fully back to work before those businesses are lost, and full public transport back in operation before we lose some of the more lightly used services forever.

One week ago they told us the cases would be doubling every week and they clearly haven't here from last Monday. So I will take that as a small win!

You don't think in part the reason people aren't picking it up in those places is exactly because they have restrictions in place?
Seems a bit backwards logic there to say people don't seem to be catching coronavirus in train stations so we should remove the safety protocols & masks etc.

It's Monday and figures tend to drop on Mondays then surge on Tuesdays. Don't know whether this pattern will continue.

It’s still important to look at the weekly pattern for each day and the numbers are lower than what was announced this time last week, which is a small positive to take

Can coronavirus just piss off alreadyyyyyy. It has already ruined 3 holidays I booked, cancelled my best friend's wedding, ruined my wedding anniversary, stopped me flying to see my mum as much as I usually would, probably going to ruin Christmas and I've just realised my 30th is in a month and I won't be able to do anything.
Waaaaah I'm feeling grumpy.

Its so annoying because all I wanted to do was rent a house so I could have my close friends in one place as they are scattered across the country which I can't do now, but if they lived locally we could go out and get pissed in a bar. Eugh

Well it's impossible to say either way isn't it? All we can say is that there wasn't a sudden massive drop in infections corresponding to when widespread mask use came in; and we know they've not been mandated for people sitting in pubs and restaurants, and no major infections there either. So yea until someone does have actual evidence that they do any good, rather than just assuming so, I think it's OK to question their value.

My brother left for uni last week and has now returned home. Lectures are online and he doesn’t want to be locked down there, I don’t blame him! I’m pretty glad he’s gone home, I think it’s the best option.

what a tit time for all these kids. Universities should have said classes will be online until Christmas, and then they could have decided to stay home.
