Coronavirus and Shielding

It’s been a long 6 months, we went into shielding a week or two before government put everyone into lockdown and all members of my family/household have been working from home ever since.

It has been testing and emotional to say the least but I am now looking to going back into work starting this week for a day a week. Has anyone been shielding and returned to work?

how have you found it? My work were supportive in letting me wfh during this but mentally and wellbeing wise I’ve lost it, I have had a major all body eczema flare ups, found it all really stressful, don’t really sleep and just struggled the past few months, haven’t been able to see a gp, only got prescriptions via sending photos of what is going on.

I’m somewhat High-risk for Covid and in September 2019 I had my first child, all through winter it was freezing and didn’t want to take my young child out in the cold (which was also very awkward when I was expressing milk constantly) so in total I’ve been staying in my house for a year with off days every other week to go food shopping or for a walk. It’s been a long time inside and I feel crap for it.

In August I started going back to work one day a week and at first I was really trying to avoid getting close to people (which was impossible)... I hate going to work because it’s unnecessary anxiety but it’s also good for your mental health to be out, somewhere different other than your house where you’re keeping busy and socialising. If you can work from home then you won’t have as many worries about catching coronavirus! I don’t actually think the virus can be avoided, you are either luck or you aren’t. I’ve heard about so many stories where the parents have tested positive but the kids are negative, I think it depends on how your body reacts.

just take your time in getting back to work, take all the precautions you can and stick to the rules, even when others don’t! I think you will be pleased you’re returning to some type of normality.

I got my new shielding advice today, the crux of it is "You no longer have to shield, but we recommend that you continue shielding. Merry Christmas".
Fun times eh?
