Consumer rights: bespoke tables

Hello! I don't know if anyone can help?

We ordered a bespokedl dining room table from a company and it was due to be delivered end of July. We had an email in June saying there are delays in UK ports so it now won't be delivered until end of August. Disappointing but understandable and obviously out of the control of the company.
Yesterday another email saying it was stuck in China so wouldn't be with us until mid September!

We contacted customer services as the previous email said it was in the UK and now they are saying it's stuck in China, so which is it? Customer service at first denied the first email had ever existed until I forwarded to them!

Now my concern is the table won't even be with us in mid September as they don't know how long these delays will last. I asked to cancel my order and was told as it was bespoke I would lose 30% of their production costs (what production costs as they haven't even started making it?!)
I'm at a loss at what to do as I feel we are held over a barrel as we can't afford to lose the deposit and buy a different table but equally I have no idea when we will actually get the table delivered.

Is there anything I can do?

I'm confused over what is stuck in china if they haven't started making the table?
Exactly! This is what I was trying to get to the bottom of with the customer service team but they kept trying to bamboozle me with consumer right jargon and how I can't cancel my order. I have asked to take it higher and waiting for a call back but I wanted to be ready to be sure that what I said was correct.

I think in that case I'd be asking them to evidence exactly what production costs they have incurred.

Did you sign a contract when you ordered the table? What does the small print say?
This is where I think we might have a case as they didn't send the terms and conditions across. They've offered to do it today 🤣 even though the order was placed in May. The terms and conditions say it can be cancelled within 7 days with a full refund, but as we've never had them, I'm arguing that we have no terms and conditions to adhere to but I don't know if that legally stands up.
