Hi all,

I'm due to have my contraceptive implant removed next week, was just wondering what to expect? did any of you lose any weight/did your mental health improve at all? all stories welcome!
I haven't had a break from any contraception for almost 10 years (switching from pill to implant), so really nervous to see how my body will react!

I had mine removed in December last year and it was the best thing I ever did. Bear in mind I was 18 when I had it put in and obviously not going to weigh the same as I did then, as a teenager, I lost a lot of weight between then and now. I do work out 6/7 times a week and eat a healthy, balanced diet so also bear that in mind aswell, it will be different for everybody. I’ve also noticed my anxiety has gotten a lot better since then however I do get mood swings. I also had to get a breast lump checked out which turned out to be swelling of the glandular tissue which the specialist put down to the removal - essentially all of those hormones from the implant leaving and my body adjusting to the change. I haven’t got my period back yet so don’t panic if yours doesn’t come back as quick as you’d like, it can take up to a year. The process itself is really simple and quick. You won’t feel a thing. I didn’t have any pain afterwards either x

I’ve been on the pill for a long time, after coming off the injection and considering stopping. We’re unable to have kids naturally so there’s kinda not much point - but I love no periods (mini pill), and I always used to get god awful migraines in the 2-3 days before my period. Quite honestly I’m scared about going through that every month - and that is probably the only reason I still take contraceptives

I had a withdrawal bleed and then I had cramps after my first proper period off the implant until my next period. I phoned the doctor who told me to wait until the second period for my body to basically sort itself out. He was right, they went away after that.

I came off 1.5 years ago after being on the implant for 8 years.

No weight loss or mental health improvements unfortunately!
Only changes were that my period hasn’t come back properly I get it every other month and I’ve developed a line on my stomach from my navel downwards, I think it’s called a linea nigra. They usually appear when you’re pregnant so I’m not sure why I got it, maybe just the big change in hormones.

I got mine taking out on Tuesday, I’m totally done with contraception now I’m 29 and I’ve been on the pill and x2 implants since 17, I’ve told bf he needs to put a special little hat on him I’m done with hormones 🤣
