Cold sores

This is the only thing that’s ever worked for me! I struggled with cold sores for years and nothing worked, not even Lysine tablets.

I had ANOTHER cold sore and in desperation ordered this from Amazon and it arrived on the second day of my cold sore. The entire thing was gone by the end of day four. Like scabbed and totally gone. Yet usually it would take two weeks.

If I ever feel a tingle, I use the stick. I’ve not had a single cold sore since and it’s been almost two years now.

You apply the stick and it heats up for a few seconds. It can be a bit uncomfortable but it’s over so quickly and much better than the cold sore

Not to sound like a salesperson But it honestly changed my life. Totally worth the money

Hi everybody, do any of you get cold sores every single month at menstruation time? i get them in my nose and on my lips. None of the ointments work. They went away when i stopped smoking years ago, but now they are back. It might be because i have cfs and fibro or it might be hormone related, im not sure. They make me feel extra run down and give me headaches. Does anyone know of a way to stop them ? Thanks in advance if anybody replies and sorry if it is a gross subject.

I’ve got an electronic machine from Boots, think it’s about £40 but it really works. If you use it at the tingle stage you could stop them properly coming out but the machine also clears them up really quickly. I’d definitely recommend it

The best remedy in my experience is ice! I hold an ice cube against it for as long as possible (until it has melted) - it numbs the pain but also stops the coldsore from growing as it needs to be at a certain temperature to do so. I’d do this a few times a day and it brings on the scab stage much sooner.

Makes it even worse when you get an idiot asking if there's a cold sore on my lip

Take Lysine and also you can get an electronic zapper thing from Amazon its quite expensive but it really takes the healing time down.

Fucidine cream works well, lysine, zinc tablets. I get them really bad so painful really interested what the coldsore machine does x

Aciclivor prescribed by a dr. I hardly get them now and if I do they aren’t that bad and cleared up in a few days.

I used to get them every few months years and years ago but I was heavily stressed out at the time, they would always coincide with when my period was due. Perhaps your monthlys are making you stressed. I had horrendous ones, I got one this month infact after going years without any at all. I always keep a pound shop mens aftershave, I find putting it on a tissue and blotting it on the sore when you can feel it tingling and weeping, blot again. It will be a scab the next day. Peelable by day 3 and gone. I've tried so many remedies over the years, over the counter, teabags, even my own earwax. Cheap mens aftershave. Life saver!

I’ve always suffered from cold sores but since the start of the pandemic I’ve been getting on average one a month I don’t seem to get the tingle so I never know when one’s coming I just wake up with it fully formed. The only thing I’ve found that actually helps is this:

I havent heard of zinc tablets, i will try that out, thanks very much. A reduction in attacks would be great. Every bloody month is a bit much. Im a vegetarian so dont know if that would make me deficient in zinc, i will find out. x

Hi, vegetarians are statistically no more likely to be deficient in zinc than meat eaters. While vegetarians and vegans consume zinc in a less absorbable form, you need vitamin C to absorb zinc, and we tend to consume more vitamin C, so it evens out.

My parents have greatly reduced their cold sores since switching from vegetarian to vegan. Also my mum takes very high dose of good quality vitamin C (sodium or calcium ascorbate, not ascorbic acid which is too harsh) when she does get a little coldsore, and it disappears quickly.

Edit: I think it's because vegans tend to eat the most vitamin C of all. I should summarise by saying try a quality vitamin C supplement!

I swear by both of these! Especially the zapper! It stops it’s spreading and less noticeable, brilliant. Xx

Mine aren’t usually hormonal but they are a pain. I take zinc tablets regularly and I’ve definitely seen a reduction in the number of attacks I get each year.

I do have bad periods, they run me down. I will nick some of my husbands aftershave, he only uses cheap stuff , im glad you have found a solution. Theres been loads of good advice. x
