Chupi is not truthful when talking about her business. She has a way less employees that she states. Her turnover is a way overstated look at the cro. She doesn't make it in Ireland she had no workshop. If you need something to be repaired it take weeks to get it done. She has to send it off to get it repaired. Lab grown diamonds are 30% cheaper the natural. She only uses 14k gold the prices she charges should be 18k gold with top class natural diamonds. If you were to resell her jewellery you would be lucky to get a third you paid for it. Her model of business is to hold no stock and when a piece is ordered on line she orders this abroad and you have to wait 6 to 8 weeks. If you look at her video of a ring in the new collection it is not polished on the inside and has broken prongs. She a marketing specialist not a jeweller and yes I have my years of jewellery experience. Chupi is over priced for the work and materials you are buying.i am very surprised that people spend so much on this quality of jewellery. The power of marketing

Interested in those points. I don’t know much about jewellery other than the research I did for my own engagement ring. I bought an antique ring. I did think her stuff was pricey for lab grown diamonds, I wouldn’t have know that about the gold.
I assumed from everything on Instagram that she has staff in Ireland. Around the time I bought a necklace from her during lockdown she put up an Instagram story of a DPD van full of tiny packages, literally it was almost full.
I think she put up something before about getting criticism from a jeweller because she’s a woman. I did think at the time maybe it was because she’s not a jeweller.
I have to say I really like my initial necklace even if I overpaid for it. A €14k ring is a different thing altogether.

She shared a message before (anonymously) that she'd received from a jeweller basically saying that her prices were a rip off. She made it about her being a woman in business and the criticism coming from a man.

I wouldn't be surprised if the poster above is the same person who sent her that message.

I agree that marketing is a very big part of the business but I do think some of the jewellery is beautiful and in general, I like her.

Everyone over pays for engagement rings. You’re probably a jeweler who charges people 2k+ for composite shite. Her prices are high but you’re not buying just the ring, it’s the marketing and the story.
Chupi has a specific customer, she’s not here to cater to the everyday person in Ireland.

Sorry but marketing and story shouldn't be adding a couple of grand to ring prices 🙄 I've no skin in the jewellery game but it's clear to anyone who does even basic research before buying that Chupi is way overpriced for the materials used.

If this is true, who are all the craftspeople she has in those videos about heritage crafts? She obviously doesn’t make the jewellery herself but does seem to pride herself on having everything made in Ireland. My sister had a necklace that needed fixed and she had it back in less than two weeks. Mind you this was before she did the solid gold stuff, it was only plated. Do you think things have gone abroad since the business started to grow?

It is, but so are designer handbags( and again, these are not marketed to everyday people like us)
I bought engagement rings in my last job and the mark up is disgusting. We are all being overcharged but people still buy these rings because it’s ✨Love✨ Wedding Jewellery is a scam in general.
Don't buy diamonds, buy gemstones or moissanite instead. Better yet, a designer handbag will probably hold its value better than jewellery will!

Yeah I think the point of the higher prices is you're paying for the design, she's a designer. Same as you would pay a lot for a designer handbag... which the cost of the materials is way way less than the price of the item. You're paying for the talented designer.

Now I don't know a lot about jewelry so I don't know if her designs are particularly great or unique but that's what you are paying for I think. Whether you buy into it or not or like her designs or not that's up to you😁.

Now there's obviously some people who think the fashion industry, designers and luxury items are a farce but that's a whole other conversation I think.

I get the vibe that Chupi thinks she is some kind of feminist revolutionary.....

I think people need to do their own research. You can buy a 2ct lab grown diamond with very good specs for c.€6k so potential customers need to decide if is worth the €10k premium for Chupi design. I’d rather spend the money on a better/larger diamond personally.

She definitely thinks she’s something special. She’s quids in with her feminist “from me to me” marketing gimmicks.

Wealthy women spending 1000s on a silly ring for themselves, thus in turn making Chupi a millionaire, is not feminism. Also somebody said on Glassdoor that wages were low and there was no space to grow. We don't need more female CEOs, millionaires and billionaires. We need far better and more equitable rights in the workspace.

Also, there are plenty of far better, interesting and original Irish makers who design and make each piece, without asking for a 'designer premium'. Also, you can buy extremely similar items to Chupi for far less, made from the same materials. Her designs are very basic.

But she is absolutely a marketing prodigy.

I was being sarcastic. The jeweler who emailed her about her prices wasn’t worried about her gender, but Chupi twisted it completely. She has tapped into a gap in the market and is making the most of it.

Oh yeah, I totally read it as sarcasm, I was just adding to your comment!

The CEO Girlboss Millionaire neo-liberal faux-feminism makes me feel really uncomfortable. Not just with her, but with the many other like her.

Hard agree. And this nonsense about taking a risk and leaving top shop. Easy to take “risks” when you have a nice wealthy family to cushion your fall.

I remember reading an article about her ages ago and thinking the exact same thing. Knowing that if things went tits up she would still be OK is a privilege that many don't have. It's easy to talk about how you must follow your dreams when you have a wealthy family to back you up.

I kind of like chupi and think good for her that she is doing so well but I realised when she was pushing not just rings worth 000s of euro but stacks of rings worth God know what that I'm just not her target market anymore and stopped following. I don't find her in anyway relatable the bubble of wealth and privilege that surrounds her is too far out there for me.

I'd love to know how Chupi comes across in real life because in interviews so often she comes across unbearable. Like this one:

Everything comes down to being a woman and not doing the standard or most obvious route. She comes across like a hipster who can't like mainstream music just for their image.

Like Chupi's comment about not being able to get a credit card because she was a woman. Or this quote "What I loved about a PLC (post leaving certificate course) is that, especially for design, it’s really hands on. You can go and do a four year degree and just hate it". You can also hate PLC courses. From her previous comments about home schooling it comes she looks down on anyone that had a traditional education which lets face it is around 99% of the population. I wonder what she will do when it comes time for her daughter to go to school.

Finally her comment about how she would hate to work on an all male team is insane. Firstly, as an employer it is discriminatory and sexist. If she had an existing team and with 5 people lets say 4 men and 1 woman and the woman left would she refuse to hire a man?

I find some of her comments the complete opposite to feminism. I would describe myself as a feminist...I know I am just as capable (if not more capable) as my male colleagues. I don't want to be treated nor am I treated differently because of my gender but if tomorrow a colleague got some promotion etc over me my default response would not be "it's because I am a woman and he is a man" because I don't see us as any different in a work setting.
