What is/was your plans for Christmas this year?

My partner and I were planning on going to my mums for Christmas this year but it's a 4 hour drive so we don't think we would be able to travel so far because of the 'rona 🤷‍♀️ We then thought "duck it" and thought we'd spend the day just the two of us (because it's our last christmas before getting married) but partners mother isn't a fan of us being on our own when she lives 5 mins away 🙄 but there's 4 people who live there, a fifth if his brother goes and then us which takes us to 7 if we have the rule of 6 in the UK. I'd rather be just the two of us but partner hasn't fully cut the umbilical cord 🙃

Anyone else hoping to be anti social this Christmas? 😂

I know lots of people who want to be anti social but I really want to spend it with my family!! I live about 2.5 hours away from them all and have spent the last 2 years at home with my partners family. This year I was really looking forward to spending it with my family. My sister also had a baby last September and because of rona, I feel like I've missed out on so much of her growing up. She's 1 now and she is walking and has that cute baby gibberish, I really want to see her first proper Christmas 🥺 Luckily even if the rule of 6 is in place, I can still go so holding out that if there are restrictions, that's all it is

I’m really sad. I will be spending Christmas by myself. Due to you know what my parents have been stuck in a different country for ages, and my brother and his family don’t live close enough to get to (I don't drive and no underground on Xmas day).

I’m generally happy enough by myself (I live alone and have been working from home since March) - but I’ve not seen anyone I know since March!!!! Been trying to make convo with the supermarket delivery people but we’re not vibing.

Birthday is also in December so I’ll be alone for that too.

It’ll be fine I know, just another day alone, but still, feeling lonely and pathetic already. Hopefully my tears will add some flavour to my gravy.

I feel ya!

I last saw my nephew when he was about 7/8 months (a proper baby) and he’s 16 months now!!!

I normally fly out to South Africa in early November and spend most of winter of there with my parents and sister. But I think that's all gone down the pan this year, unless travel restrictions are lifted in early December.

If I can't fly out then I'll spend CD on my own (my partner has tested positive, so she'll be in SI for another 10 days. But am hoping she'll be able to join me over Christmas)

I guess like the majority of people Christmas is really up in the air until this government makes a firm decision which way to let the nation enjoy it

For the past 4 years I have spent Christmas alone. It is really hard and you feel so lonely and like, “Billy-no-Mates”. I think the worst part is waking up on Christmas morning knowing that you’ve nothing to open (unless you send a gift to yourself!) 🤣 and you know that people you know will be opening their presents, etc, surrounded by their loved ones.

But, it also makes you tougher, spending Christmas by yourself and for the sake of your mental health, you have to view the whole thing with a different slant. The upsides are that you don’t have to endure being in a place or with people you would rather not be with. Or sitting there pretending to enjoy yourself because you received the “pity invite” and you feel obliged to stick a smile on your face. 🤣

More upsides, you can do whatever the hell you want, eat what you want, watch what you want and know that you have not spent a small fortune on buying a gift for someone that ultimately they may not like.

There is always the #JoinIn hashtag on Twitter where you’ll find plenty of people who have to spend Christmas alone. That makes life feel a whole lot better.

So for anyone spending it alone, it really is not that bad. You can always find me on here if you feel you can’t cope with it.

I understand how you feel about spending Christmas by yourself. It’s not easy, but it does get easier. 😊🌿🌼
