The CMS would use this calculator to work out the amount: https://www.gov.uk/calculate-child-maintenance

When you go to input the salary there's weekly, monthly and yearly options. The only way his explanation makes sense is if he is self employed in which case he may not know yet what his average 'yearly' income is. But even then he could put in a weekly or monthly so it's still a cop out tbh. Do you have a solicitor?

Thank you, is exactly what I thought and what I said to him. We have both used the calculator and came up with the same amount. I have a meeting with my solicitor tomorrow so I will double check with her and take it from there.
I’m gutted he walked out on the kids and is now trying to get out of what he should rightfully be paying. It’s making me so angry

Hello, my husband has recently left myself and the kids. I am trying to sort out maintenance but he is dragging his heels. He started a new job last year which has a higher salary than his previous job. He says he has to contact hmrc to see what he has earned in the last year to work out how much he will be due to pay. I am of the understanding however that it only takes into account what you currently earn? Does anyone know who is correct? I am worried he is trying to get out of paying what he should be
