Cathy Come Home, BBC drama 1960s

I had heard of this acclaimed drama about a family descending into homelessness but only watched it a few years ago for the first time and it's harrowing and heartbreaking.

Has anyone else seen it? Would love to discuss it with someone.

Yeah it's bleak. It seems realistic - I can imagine that was the life people in housing insecurity led in the UK in the 1960s, and still do. It's an interesting historical artefact of the less glamorous side of 1960s Britain.

I was surprised to read that the lead actress Carol White died relatively young, and didn't have a prolific career.

No she didn't she faded away, and Cathy Come Home was the antidote to the myth of the swinging 60's in Britain weverything seemed so perfect and rosy, it wasn't.

I used to see the guy who played Cathy's husband in a pub in Richmond sometimes he seemed a very nice person with no airs and graces and mixed freely with the locals.

I can remember my Mum talking about this and saying how harrowing it was to watch. I’m not sure what year it was shown on the BBC, the early 70s seems to ring a bell. I think people found it shocking because many could relate to it.
