The tricky thing with youth crime is that it is incredibly complex and layered. I don’t think I have the energy to deconstruct it. However patriarchy, trauma, family violence, abusive systems, racism, laws, the justice system, the youth detention system, displacement and so many more factors are at play. What is Carl doing about that? Is she volunteering in youth centres? Is she mentoring young people? Is she on any steering committees in her local area that is looking at how to reduce youth crime? Is she using her creative “talent” to give a narrative to youth issues. Is she providing photography classes for free to young people in resi units. No. She’s just adding to the hate in the world. She contributes nothing in the area of problem solving. She just whinges and whines about how it’s everybody else’s fault. I have a very close friend who works for free for a youth centre (outside of her official job) in an area where youth crime is rampant. She is highly trained in an area not related to social justice work but in a role that any not for profit or charity needs. She has no experience working with youth outside of this work. She is however kind, compassionate, motivated, skilled, supportive, brave, assertive, measured, calm, intelligent and community minded. She led a very privileged life until she didn’t and instead of becoming a victim, she dusted herself off, she got back on her feet, she worked around the clock to provide for her and her kids and once she had survived and thrived she gave back. She is the antithesis to Carl. And she doesn’t post about it in SM. I only know what she does because I’m one of her closest friends. Even though she should be incredibly bitter after what she endured she is not. She is tough but rather than complaining about what everyone else should do, she gets out there and does it with love and the hope that it will make a difference.

Waterways is actually quite a nice wet-lands area/estate, lots of bird-life & flora. I figured she moved there after hearing her raving about ‘Garden-World’ (Nearby on Springvale Road) & buying plants from them.

I have friends living in Edithvale, near the beach, not far from Waterways & often go for walks in that estate. So even the few shots of her home she’s shared, confirmed where she now lives. The median house price is 1.5 million, & Carlz (the upwardly mobile ‘renter’) definitely wants to be in that demographic. She intentionally showed glimpses of double-story mansions flanking the streets on both sides, to show off the salubrious, well-to-do neighbourhood she feels she belongs in.
