I currently work part time with children and it's all I've ever done and all I've ever know. Now my own children are growing up and my youngest starts school next year, I need to think about getting my foot back into earning more money for our family.

I've had enough of my current job and even the thought of working more hours there makes me want to cry. I don't know what to do with my life and its really starting to bring me down.

Does anyone know of any helplines or anything that can help with adults in a career crisis!

I'd start by doing a bit of soul searching as to what you enjoy, what you're good at and what skills you have. Once you've done that you will be in a better place to think about the sort of jobs that you might want to target.

You could have look at personality tests which have a career section they can be really interesting, or find people who do things you might be interested in and ask them if they are free to have a chat about their role and what it entails. There are also lots of free courses that the government offer for you to try your hand at things and see if you are interested in. I know it can be daunting but the fact you are thinking about it is great and defo a positive step ☺ all the best!

Let's be honest very few people know what to do with their lives, we are all just making it up as we go along.

I think getting some guidance is a good idea but please don't expect this to solve all your "problems". People do get burnt out if they have been in the same job for years, I'm currently going through this and you also have to keep in mind most people do jobs they don't really want to do. The best one could hope for is too at least work in an industry you enjoy.

Also try and work out what you want out of your job in terms of environment/work life balance. This was great advice I got and helped me find my current path, for example something might sound exciting but if you have to work evenings/weekends (and dont want to) then you’ll have to work out which is most important to you. For me I really wanted to have my evenings and weekend free and primarily work from home, so that’s what was most important even if the actual day to day responsibilities of my role aren’t the most glamorous!
