Hi all.
I’m just having a “debate” (argument) with my husband about my car service.
It’s coming up to one year old we got it brand new. It’s only done 3000 miles and my dealership want £320 for a first service. It just feels like such a huge rip off.
It’s hire purchase and I’m tempted to get rid of it. It runs fine. It doesn’t go anywhere. Im on maternity leave so I can’t even afford it.
does anyone have any experience of them devaluing your car because it didn’t have a service. I feel like they’ve got me over a barrel here
Is it really worth it?
i hate cars 😂

That seems pretty expensive! Are you tied into a service with them? This article explains the difference between a service and MOT and average costs: https://www.theaa.com/driving-advice/service-repair/car-servicing-complete-guide

If it’s a new car with such a low mileage the service should be really minor. Have you tried checking the cost with an independent garage?

I said that to Mercedes’ but they like you need to check with finance 🙄 these places don’t half try & screw you over I swear. I don’t even think till need anything doing after 3000 miles 🤷🏼‍♀️

added to say it’s 10000 miles or12 months what ever comes first

It’s a complete con and rip off. All they do is drop your oil and refill and replace filters etc. a year old car shouldn’t even need a service. Tell them
To stick it up their arse. I wouldn’t be having it serviced after a year and I sure as tit wouldn’t be paying hundreds of pounds for it! Daylight robbery.

You can void the warranty by not getting the correct servicing, if you returned the car you may get a lower price for it as you’ve effectively screwed the rest of the warranty away.
Might be worth asking if they do a service plan to make it cheaper or seeing if there’s a Merc specialist in your area, usually ex merc techs who’ve left the company but know what they’re doing

Especially if it’s only done 3000 miles. Really pisses me off

If you’ve only done 3000 miles in a year and you don’t use it/can’t afford it, can you look into returning it?

That was another option but I go back to work (on maternity) in a few months so it will be used a lot more especially as we’re not gonna be working from home any more
