I had a bunion! And I had a bunionectomy about 10 years ago! It’s a gruelling op (they file the bone down and put pins in to hold everything in place) and recovery. I don’t generally wear heels now and I have pins in my foot permanently which can also cause pain wearing certain shoes. I only had one foot operated on (the other foot was fine), but my operated foot is now slightly shorter than the other... not that it causes any problems!

After the op, your foot is wrapped up and you can’t put weight on it for a few weeks. No walking without crutches, no driving. The medication is mostly pain relief which is strong... I hated it and stopped taking it at one point because I felt too spaced out, but I regretted that and ended up back in the hospital because of the pain.

Im not sure the operation was worth it to be honest!! I still have occasional pain in my foot where the pins now are, and still can’t wear high heels for very long

Advice please . I've recently developed a bunion. Irritating little bleeder, it's not massive , but I'm in agony. I'm on my feet for work , have two kids and a dog so i can't take it easy . I don't wear badly fitting shoes , I don't wear heels . Im waiting for an appointment with an orthopedic Dr.
I've been wearing toe seperaters.
What's your experience with bunions and orthopaedics?

Any tried and tested remedies/ pain relief etc

Thanks for reading.
