Can't help but laugh at how she talks about mixing gold + silver jewelry and being in a 'necklace' phase, like this is like a new discovery to her.
Also, for the record, I was genuinely shocked she would want Monica Vinader pieces but then I opened the description box and saw the sponsorship note and then it all made sense.
BB glosses over this in the video but the gold pieces are gold vermeil. Given everything I've seen of BB, I would expect her to buy solid gold pieces (sometimes referred to as 'gold filled'), especially given that MV's prices are high enough that solid gold wouldn't be that much more, but alas, the sponsorship! MV allegedly uses 18ct gold for their vermeil, but still. There's no way of telling how thick the 18ct gold layer is vs. the brass base and these pieces generally require more care to ensure that the gold doesn't tarnish.
The fact that she even comments that MV's products are 100% recycled, sterling silver, and 18ct gold (pause) vermeil. She should have explained the difference. Just because something is 18ct gold doesn't mean you're paying for 100% 18ct gold, sheesh!
If you would allow me to indulge in a BB style ramble...
The whole solid gold vs. vermeil vs. plated issue is something that I've looked into quite a bit since I've been in the market for more jewelry and it really grinds my gears when jewelry companies describe their products as "fine" jewelry but only have gold vermeil products. It's my opinion that companies like MV and Mejuri do this as a way of over-charging customers who think they're buying higher-quality jewelry than they really.
This isn't a comment on those who want vermeil jewelry, since vermeil is generally more reasonably priced, it's a comment on companies who purposefully mislead customers. Even using the word 'gold vermeil' is misleading since the gold is (usually) only slightly thicker and higher quality than plated and can still tarnish. There generally aren't any rules/guidelines for what constitutes plated vs. vermeil and no one holds these companies accountable.
At the end of the day, vermeil and plated jewelry are both plated and are usually filled with brass, and for BB to shill this company to us knowing that she would probably never even buy from them herself... ugh.
Apologies for the rant. This is near and dear to my heart. I feel like people are purposefully being led astray on this topic and jewelry isn't cheap.
