Breast reduction

Hi!

I have been offered a breast reduction due to chronic tension headaches and back pain. Feeling very very lucky but also so so nervous… my surgery is in 1 1/2 weeks!

I was just wondering if anyone here had been through it too and had any advice for preparation for it or recovery or any little things that I wouldnt have thought of?

Also jumping on this as I have been fighting with my doctor to allow my breast reduction since I was 18, am only 5ft an can get measured as a E/F an it honestly gets to me, I hate them with a passion, I get back pain, shoulder pain, nothing fits right an I can't wear shirts

Would love to know how you get on as I continue my fight

How did you find asking for help? Did you go via the nhs?
any tips?
I’ve come back from holiday and I am so down and depressed so many lovely dresses and tops were being worn with women with small boobs

I am in Denmark so slightly different system I think…

I was also insanely lucky I know that!

but I think if you believe you are in the category for having this reduction, badger your GP! If it’s headaches/shoulder pains/whatever pains, try some other pain relief methods, like physio or chiropractor or something, so you can say that you have done it when they ask.

Insist on a referral if you are in the category for it being done by the NHS

I had the surgery done yesterday, and am now home and recovering after a night in the hospital. Boobs already look pretty good of course covered in tape and stuff but size wise I can see myself in the mirror and not just my boobs which is amazing. I am so relieved even though it hurts

im feeling really fragile to the point of depression about my boobs. I’ve needed this thread to really face up to dealing with my big tits. I know I’ll burst into tears when I have to speak to the GP, hopefully that will help my case

The criteria might be pretty strict with NHS, but I would say if you can save or finance it, it would be worth it if it is getting you so down? It is so shit having massive boobs. I don’t think anyone who doesn’t have them fully understands…

Just checking in after a week as now the swelling is going down, the pain is much much less and I am not taking anything other than paracetamol now. I feel some pain and pulling when I have walked for a bit too much. And that can be really surprisingly uncomfortable… I also have mega itchiness where the cuts are… so so unbearably itchy! I guess it’s everything healing up, so a good sign.

Warnings for others:
I had a mega weepy few days like two days post surgery. I was so sad. And disappointed about the results, I felt like they were still big and was so so sad they didn’t just take al the boob away. I think that was just the anaesthetic and painkillers doing weird things to my brain. They are already going down with swelling and don’t feel as huge.

Take your ibuprofen with food! I didn’t a few times and it was BAD for my stomach. That was the worst bit to be honest over the last few days… bloating and gassy and so so painful and hard to sleep… I’ve stopped the ibuprofen now and my stomach feels much much better!

Showers and washing is so difficult for the first week and I still dont feel super comfortable with showering. I don’t like getting the incisions wet, and raising my arms to wash my hair is not easy

Overall though would 100% recommend it. I can feel that the day is coming where I can run with my kids without having an insane underwired massive sports bra on. And where I don’t have to wear an underwired support bra all day at work, just to take it off immediately when I get home and scratch the place where it sat. And where my neck and head aren’t hurting from the weight of them…

I think I am just looking forward to them just being there and not being a problem.
