Hi all,
Last week, I was instructed by my GP to get my bloods drawn. I normally would get bloods done at the local private hospital, but the GP said they had to be done by the phlebotomist at their practice.
I went in and was the first patient after a bank holiday weekend. At first, all was fine. Then at some point, I sensed some pain during the procedure and realized the phlebotomist was trying to either force the needle in my arm or placed it incorrectly. Something felt off.
She finished taking the bloods and noticed she was extremely clumsy and kept dropping things afterwards.
I got home and my arm was in pain which isn’t unusual. Towards the end of the day, I removed the plaster which was filled with blood which is highly unusual because I normally don’t have any blood on post-draw plasters.
The pain in my arm remained throughout the whole of last week and yesterday was the quite bad. It’s been more than a week and my arm is still in pain, if I touch my elbow, I sense a lot of pain and my arm feels extremely heavy. Not to mention, both my forearm and upper arm hurt at the slightest movement.
I will need to have this checked out but I don’t know if I should go back to that same GP (who is lovely and very competent unlike the phlebotomist) or go to another GP to get an independent assessment in case I need to raise a personal injury claim because the pain is debilitating and I can’t even type on my laptop for more than 5 minutes which makes it complex to work or do basic chores.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.
