Is anyone else fed up of seeing influencers blaming the algorithm for the fact their engagement is down?

Do you think they ever considered that their content is simply not as interesting to their audience anymore?

I don’t care about seeing their fast fashion ads or them travelling around the world during a global pandemic.

I want to see influencers who have a positive influence on the world, yet most influencers seem to have this entitled view that we should all be interested in the meaningless crap they post about and that the only reason their engagement could possibly be down is because of the algorithm on Instagram.

I’m not saying that the algorithm has no impact on the fact their posts aren’t being seen but maybe if they made their content more interesting, it would be put to the top of people’s feeds more often....

Interested to hear other views on the algorithm getting the blame...

I think people are wising up to ads and getting sick of having adverts shoved down their throats every 5 mins. I hope that more and more people start to feel that way so we see less of it. I can understand the temptation for influencers but as an Instagram user I find it boring, especially when it’s the same product again and again by so many people. I unfollow now, there’s just no trust and it’s completely insincere, you know half of them are advertising things they’d never use or buy so it’s all become noise to me now, I don’t buy anything I see ever just because someone’s done an ad on social media.

I think most influencers are boring to be honest. They are just like those magazines that are full of adverts and no actual articles . People just flick through and don't take anything in.

I don't see the point of following people like that when I can look at their pictures on their public accounts anyway

I have a business page on insta and Facebook (I do beauty treatments on the side of my full time job) and I do find the algorithms annoying. I have a lot of followers but don’t always get as much engagement as I should do, which comes from Instagram not showing my stories/posts unless lots of people comment, like and save them. Creating content is hard especially if business depends on people seeing it.

Saying that, I do think a lot of influencers are lazy with their content. I like to watch stories/see posts that are interesting - people who just post ad after ad, or sponsored posts are boring! Especially when a load of them post the same product at the same time (Iconic make up for example). Sometimes I go on a bit of an unfollowing spree because my Instagram feels like one big advert

Yeah the thing with the algorithm is usually reach rather than engagement. On post insights you can see how much reach a certain post has had, so sometimes engagement is lower than usual, this doesn't always mean your content is lower quality or that people didn't enjoy it but sometimes they literally didn't see it. Particularly people who don't follow you, obviously the only way for new people to follow you is for them to see your content, but occasionally the algorithm will mess up and it literally shows your post to like 1% people who don't follow you when usually it is something like 80%.

But I do think influencers are totally lazy, they post the same stuff over and over, they post the same stuff as other influencers at the same time and it is totally boring so people do engage less.

How does it work ?
I watch stories and read posts but never ever like or comment on influencers I follow, so am I just zero engagement? A couple of people I follow have gone off my stores/ newsfeed recently and have blamed the algorithm and in that context it made sense but I am certain I have never engaged with them anyway?
