Hi, don't have any recommendations as such but I just want to say that if you're able, do try and see a therapist specialising in EDs (I know that this is a luxury that isn't available to everyone). I have an ED and while I don't know your situation, our relationship to food depends on so much more than food itself and I think it's so important to talk about it. Hope you're doing okay, things will get better!

Hello, long term sufferer here.

I can recommend Lucy Aphramor as a therapist. She is a dietician and counsellor who specialises in helping people who are in crisis with food. I saw her for virtual appointments about two years ago and I think I paid about £60 an hour. She made a lot of difference for me.

I am now in treatment with an ED team (I had to wait a long time for that, I think Lucy made a big difference in the interim) and am happy to talk about how I was able to get a referral with BED, if you're in the UK.

ETA: the Christopher Fairburn book is a book for practitioners. It pisses me off royally that it's the book that always gets recommended to us, but that's because it's the only clinical book for BED. There's so little. Please don't attempt the programme in that book until you're under the care of an ED therapist.

Hi Tattlers, can anyone recommend a counsellor / book to help with adult binge eating please.

Thank you
Overcoming Binge Eating by Christopher Fairburn is one that has helped a lot of people and is backed by scientific evidence for its methods.

Hi @PinkGin123 . I don't have any experience of the disorder so I hope you don't mind me replying. But you might find it interesting to listen to Cristo Foufas on Talk Radio. He often refers to his struggles with binge eating, last night (or was it the night before?) he took a call from a guy who has been bingeing, Cristo was so honest and compassionate, I really felt I could begin to understood the issue like I've never been able to before, it was very moving. The show is on weeknights 10pm.
