Stunning movie about the trouble in Belfast in 1969. One of the best movies I have seen in years. The kid playing the lead character needs to clean up at award season. Jamie Dornan and Judi Dench are support roles to that superb child. If you've an hour and a half spare this weekend watch it. Heck if you haven't got an hour and a half spare cancel stuff to make the time :D It's quite difficult to watch in parts as it's sad how you can hate someone based on religion and not the personality of a person. Then in other parts it's really funny.

Judi Dench murders the NI accent in this film. I’m from NI & her accent is really bad!

I loved the film. Jude Hill is amazing, he reminds me a bit of Jamie Bell in Billy Elliot. I cried at a few parts, it was very touching. Loved the music too.

I've never been one for black and white. Went to the cinema to this and was one of the better films I've seen over the years. ( went because of Jamie 😂 ) it made me realise how bad things was in that era.

How sided is it? My boyfriend's family are from Northern Ireland but they're Catholic, I like watching films about the troubles with him so I can understand his family history more - not sure if this will just annoy him if it's just showing the side of a Protestant family? 😂 but the reviews look good so I wouldn't mind watching it, rare I get chance to watch anything without him!

Mickeybo & Me was a great film about the troubles if anyone wants something similar

I think this film is a beautiful piece of work.
The young lad playing Buddy is excellent.
The direction is wonderful.
The way the camera went around the little boy when the violence kicked off on the street was genius. I felt his turmoil.
And the way his happiness on the Christmas Day scene was instantly shattered was really moving.

The soundtrack songs are carefully chosen, and they really are a huge part of the atmosphere of the film.

And it really gives a taste of how it must have felt to live through those times.

I loved it.

BAFTA nominations are out - I can't see Jude Hill (Buddy) on the lists.

That can't be right!
He was amazing!

I hope I'm wrong and his name is there.

If anything it’ll likely support the side of the poor old IRA with rewritten history as per the norm.

Saw it last night it was fantastic I cried buckets.
my (Irish) 85 year old mother in law saw it too and she said she can still remember her dads face when she waved goodbye to come to England (my husband was born in UK early 60’s) it’s really got to her

How the hell did Judi Dench get an Oscar nomination?? She was pure shite in the film! 😡
Ciaran Hinds fully deserves his nomination though 👍

What about the kid playing Buddy? Hasn't he been nominated for any awards? He was fabulous?
