Being hacked on Facebook

Just logged into Facebook 10 mins ago and noticed that I got hacked, weird messages with links were sent to ALL friends and contacts. F*cking hell. Even chats which haven't been open since 2019!!

I feel like such a f*cking wally, especially since I'll be bumping into a few of those people within the next few days. I've had to delete tons of chats and then apologise to people in others.

I went to research it and apparently this is quite common if you click on a weird looking link on Messenger so my advice is to steer clear of any of those links if someone messages you them.

Anyone else had a similar experience? If so, what should I do next?

What can you do? Update your password if you think that’s maybe at risk but aside from that, meh - I’m sure the embarrassment will ease soon enough and you won’t click any dodgy links again in a hurry!

I've updated the FB password but I'm worried in case they've found their way onto anything else. My bank account at least doesn't seem to be affected (that has no link to my Facebook anyway).

You’ll be fine - Facebook isn’t linked to banking etc

Does fb have 2 factor authentication? I'd set that up if possible, so you'll have to approve sign ins.

I have 2 factor authentication. Go into your Settings - Passwords and Security.

You can see what devices are logged into your account too. So you can go in and logout of all sessions.

It’s getting so common on Facebook now. My 80 year-old Aunt recently had her account hacked.

Don’t click on any links that look strange, especially ones like. “Click here to see who viewed your Facebook profile” it’s all nonsense.

I closed my Facebook account after I accepted my sister as a friend and not long after my whole Facebook turned into a foreign language. I didn't get anywhere trying to sort it out so in the end with help I closed my account.
Have also had someone messing with my eBay even though I have 2 step verification. Seriously thinking of coming off a lot of media as too traumatic trying to sort it out.
