I have a 6-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Autism and Global Developmental Delay at 3 1/2. We’ve been very grateful for the fact that with the exception of full moons, he’s a very good sleeper however all that seems to have changed.
He settles down well with bedtime stories between 7.30/8.00 but he’s wakening up at various times, today being 1230am. We’ve tried keeping him up a bit longer but it hasn’t helped. His room is in darkness with a blackout blind and thick curtains. His room is warm but he won’t sleep under a quilt or weighted blanket. He’s non-verbal so he can’t tell us why he’s wakening up and unable to get to sleep again.
Our Paediatrician spoke about melatonin before so I’ve put an e-consult into the doctor to try that, however I thought it was good at getting them to sleep but not at keeping them asleep. Has anyone any experience of their wee ones on it?
It’s taking it’s toll on us all now, my husband and I both work and we’re all just exhausted. I’m a born worrier so I’m convinced after having 6 years of a good sleeper that’s it, he’ll never sleep all night again. Any tips would ge gratefully received, thank you.
