Who could have seen that coming 🙄.

It's almost like it wasn't a good idea to get rid of pretty much all normal drinks and replace them with artificial sweeteners. Thanks sugar tax for massively increasing the amount of artificial sweeteners!

Diet Coke have tried to wipe this superbowl ad and pretend it doesn't exist 😆

Worst kept secret.
It bugs me that a lot of places don't offer full sugar drinks anymore. Artificial sweetners cause me headaches and vomiting.

Theres an article that says it's based on mg per kg of body weight as to what your risk is. For the average person it means drinking 15 cans of diet coke a day. I think anyone drinking that much already has problems TBH

Hasn’t this been known for years? I drink loads of sugar free cordial so I’m probably stuffed if it’s true!

That's the line they've been spinning for decades, and is about to be replaced.

It's terrible, I think normal coke is the only non premium brand you can get where they haven't stuffed it with sweeteners. Although saying that they'll still often give you normal pepsi when you ask for a coke which does have sweeteners.

I literally hate ordering drinks when out now. I rarely drink fizzy drinks with the exceptions of lime soda/ actual coke since the sugar tax. I avoid artificial sweeteners like the plague so hate asking for a coke when out as I have to make a point of saying just normal coke, not diet or Coke Zero and then hoping for the best they’ve actually listened.
Got a McDonald’s the other day, I got a normal coke, person I was with got a Coke Zero, neither drink was marked so I had to have a sip of both to see which was mine, the Coke Zero gives you that awful sweetener aftertaste I don’t know how anyone can drink it

I first heard about the dangers of aspertame, over a decade ago. Unfortunately I am a very heavy drinker of diet coke, so who knows how I have been affected. Although I have tried to cut down recently. My advice to anyone would be, stop drinking these drinks, seek a more healthy alternative.

Be interesting to see what it is going to become.

I've recently cut diet coke out completely but I drank my fair share. I did switch normal coke to diet coke to cut the calories as i was drinking too much....so that was a wise choice 🙈

Interestingly diet coke sales have already been in decline (know someone who works there) wonder if this will be the final nail in the coffin for the brand.

I’m sure i read decades ago it caused tumours in rats. I always try and avoid it and just have the occasional sugary drink, as said up thread, damn near impossible these days thanks to sugar tax.

Can’t stand diet drinks. Full fat Coca Cola is literally the only acceptable fizzy drink left. The new “full fat” Pepsi is awful and don’t get me started on how much they’ve ruined Lucozade!

taking the sugar out of lucozade defeated the point of lucozade for me 😂 I drink it when I have a tummy bug or haven’t been able to keeping anything in or down for a few days. Pointless now lmao

Based on a correlation study and a study in mice 🙄 for me WHO lost credibility a while ago

I do wonder what new evidence has led to this, aspartame has been well-studied for many many years and never found to be anything but safe to consume, so I'm interested what research has come to light now.

I absolutely love Pepsi so I’m screwed but I no longer eat red meat/pork which I believe WHO put in the same category carcinogen as smoking and asbestos so I’ll take the L and guzzle my Pepsi 😅

I heard it was banned in Europe ages ago because of this. Wouldn't ever knowingly consume that crap.

Seriously, they're going to have a hard time convincing some people after coming out with that corker!

It's not based on any new research. They are going to list it as 'possible' carcinogen, with a view that it will bring more research. So there isn't actually any evidence that it does cause cancer.
