Google AI summaries are now at the top of the google search results page and are often terribly inaccurate but present it with such confidence you'd be forgiven for thinking it was some fact checked truth. Most people never scroll down so will only see AI and never leave google, just like they want. How long until google search is just AI with no links?

Apple intelligence is encouraging you to not actually read texts or emails from friends and instead rely on a summary that is often awful. Fair enough summarising long corporate emails but when someone has typed words you should at least read them. Or maybe they didn't type them and got AI to write them. In that case are we even communicating anymore as it's AI speaking to AI.

The Apple ads are the worst, showing how their tech helps stupid, lazy, workshy people get away with it. This video sums it up well:

It’s not quite at the world domination level, but my husband used ChatGPT to write a letter for me to HMRC and it was pretty amazing.

In all seriousness though, I do wonder what the future of journalism is going to be with AI.

Remember when it was also a crazy conspiracy theory to say images uploaded to facebook and instagram were being used to create facial recognition databases. Facebook In 2020, agreed to pay $650 million to settle a class-action lawsuit in Illinois that claimed it violated the state's Biometric Information Privacy Act.

We don't have to look too far into the distant future. China already uses AI with their credit score system, to analyzes footage from minor things like jaywalking or participating in protests.

That's one thing I use it for and it's perfect for - when you need to write a box ticking letter for a gov organization. I used it to write a letter in French for a detailed plan immigration wanted.

No one will be writing the stories and no one will be reading them as people click to summarize a whole article back into the 3 bullet points that AI used to write it. :LOL:

So much journalism is dead at the moment, with places like the mail online making people scroll 20 pages for a whole padding article they wrote based on one social media post.

No suprise that all the tech companies are exploiting people in low wage countries. But I wonder if these are quite shortlived and with each year less humans will be needed?

God I really hate those robot dog things. They just make me feel icky with the legs going the wrong way.

I am seeing more and more chat gpt/AI in education and I am concerned. It seems to be gaining popularity as a time saving tool but without much thought of the data that is being entered into item I think that's what concerns me the most.

I get the sentiment with all these creative industries and their campaigns against AI. But it feels as futile as trying to hold back the tide.

I'm sure nearly everything has already been harvested. The uk government is talking about making sure people are paid for their work being used but good luck in a global world and models training models where it's hard to trace the source.

The most liked comments on the mail about creatives fighting ai ask where these people were fighting for when blue and white collar jobs were destroyed - kinda agree with them.

As a very unknown author it scares me a little what could be published in the near future. Lazy authors already use ai for covers, how long will it be before the entire books are written and actual authors aren't getting recognised?

Googles latest video generator is something else. For much of it you can barely tell it's AI and it's only going to get better.

Doubt they'll film adverts for much longer and TV/films can be created for next to nothing

It's crazy how far it's gone in just a year, come next year it might be indistinguishable from real video.

If I watched this without knowing it was AI, I'd think it was real. Perhaps that's my intelligence lacking, but it will eventually reach a point where it becomes completely indistinguishable from reality, and that's scary.

The whole ad and voice over industry could be over. I'm surprised they don't use the data they've got to make a frankenstein voice thats trained on real people but turned into something unique and hard to trace back to any one person.

Although Scotrail sounds like it's using ancient 2021 tech.

At the moment it's still noticeable if you're looking for it and on a large screen, but the leaps It's come on by in a year that by next year it could be completely indistinguishable

I have seen claims some companies are using AI for first stage job interviews. So you don't interview with a real person, to save them time and money.
