Anyone on here with ongoing back problems/issues?

Not me but my partner has suffered with her back and neck for years and has been brushed off so many times.

She was recently involved in a minor RTC and the physio she was referred to for her shoulder injury told her she has scoliosis! It was then confirmed by another physio from another practice.

Both physios were shocked that she had no idea and it's made a lot of things click into place for her, particularly the digestive issues she experiences, which is apparently common with scoliosis.

She's seen numerous "professionals" over the years who've clearly never assessed her properly. It's infuriating!

I broke my coccyx when I was 21, nothing really done about it at hospital (appreciate it's limited to what they can do) but 14 years on, I cannot do anything of impact (for eg at the gym things like burpees/squat jumps/running are all absolute no gos as I'll be broken for a week), sitting on backless chairs/floor etc again will seize up for a week +. I too have recently been informed by a physio that I have slight scoliosis (also hypermobility) so probably all come into play but I do worry as I get older. I also now have hip issues and every scan under the sun has shown nothing so I do wonder if all are linked

I’ve had back problems since 2017, I’ve tried most pain relief going NSAIDS/opioids and my bodies become immune to pretty much everything, to the point that I was recently in hospital and the IV morphine wasn’t helping (I was in for something unrelated to my back) I’ve tried acupuncture/chiropractor/physio and also found they help short term but not long term.

I’ve had steroid injections a couple of times and it’s like I’ve got a new back after having them but they won’t do them over and over.

Are you under the local pain service in your area? Keep pushing and pushing with the doctors until you get the help you need.

Here with my tale of woe.

I first experienced back problems circa 2008, but my personal life in those days was quite chaotic and I wasn’t registered with a GP. Some eight years later and life a bit more ‘normal’ and I experienced a disc prolapse although it took a long time for it to be diagnosed as such: I just kept being given strong pain relief which to be honest made little difference. It was mid February when it happened and as the months went by and still barely able to move without pain, hanging onto my job by a thread, i was eventually offered an MRI which confirmed the disc prolapse.

I was told it would heal eventually and it did but only as 2016 tailed off and it’s since happened again on a few occasions. I don’t know if because bad backs are the injury of choice for the malingerer or other reason but no one’s ever been hugely sympathetic so I just don’t talk about it. But I am in pain a lot. I had a baby in July and towards the end of my pregnancy was really struggling, initially things were better after having her but now getting worse again.

I don’t know what to do. It is particularly bad mornings hence the pity post. Are there any others out there with back pain (agony)?

Just thought I’d post even though this is old. I’ve recently had an mri & have a prolapsed disc. Never experienced pain like it. It’s been going on since May, tried all sorts of meds, currently
On tramadol. I find driving agony so I’m wfh as much as possible. I can’t sit so stand or just lie. Waiting for an appointment at new hall spinal hospital. This pain is like nothing else & I’ve given birth.

So sorry to hear others are going through this shite I’ve been in pain since last year can barely walk now have two slipped discs in lower back luckily my backs slowly getting better I do gentle excercises and go for massages they have helped a bit I think people don’t realise how bad back pain can be it’s taken my job and relationship but I’m determined to get better

I don't even know when my back problems started...
But 2022 was my worst year ever. I had so much pain, eventually i had surgery.

I have 3 problematic discs (lumbar) and they operated only 1.

I will never forget day after surgery.
It was such a "nice" pain.
"Pain of cut", NOT my daily back pain i had until then.
Very fast i was back on my legs, and i was walking in my room all the time and giving my best to recover and go back to normal life as faster as possible.

Now, almost 2 years later, i am still having bad days, but never (thanks God) horrible and super painful.
I am walking a lot.
Almost every day 10 000steps.
At the moment i am doing Advent challenge, and i am working out every day 30min (wich before surgery was not even possible).
Still, i am very careful.
i NEVER lift anything more then 2kg, i am without shame telling people around me that i need help with some things.
Its not a shame, its not your weakness, its a thing we should all learn as a no.1 step in recovery.


I would recommend you a surgery.
Especially bcs you are having a baby.
They made it with laser, and its a very fast recovery.
Pain after surgery is around 4-6/10.
But after surgery, you should get ready for a new life style.
Also, you should visit orthopedic and order a nice good quality shoes, and home slippers.
