I’m thinking of moving to a cheaper area and buying a house that has a granny flat. I love my mum, we’re very close, but I don’t know if it’s too soon to live together. I’m 39, she’s 71. She’s very mobile and fit and independent (as am I). She wouldn’t be under my feet at all.

It would mean so much less worry as she ages (currently I live hours away). But I don’t know if it’d feel weird. I’m single and not expecting that to change but if I did meet someone would it be weird if my mum was somewhere in the house?

I just don’t know. I love her so much and part of the reason for moving is to spend more time together but I just don’t know if it would be weird. She’d love it, I know she would. But wouldn’t be weird for example to eat separately? Watch tv separately? Etc.

Any and all thoughts welcome!

Well if she has a granny flat I guess the idea normally is while she is still mobile etc she gets on with her own life and you get on with yours.

Is a granny flat with seperate living areas so you wont see eachother all the time? If so, I would be all for it, think its great.

I think it’s a lovely idea and if I was in a position to be able to do this I would! I definitely wouldn’t want to see my mum all the time 😂 but each of you having your own space means you could choose to be able to do things together or separately! Slightly different but when I had a flatmate we would sometimes watch TV & have dinner together, sometimes not, no pressure and it wasn’t weird to do our own thing.
