Anyone else prefer to date people from abroad?

Slightly random topic but thought it would be worth bringing up.

I'm in Scotland (as you can tell by my username) and every time I go abroad (or even to London), I find the guys much more attractive there. Scottish guys are just rarely my type physically and a lot of them have personalities that rub me the wrong way. Foreign guys seem more attractive and I generally seem to like their personalities more. I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's physical attributes, maybe it's me wanting someone from a different culture, who knows?

Is this weird or do other people prefer dating those from abroad as well?

There is a psychological reason for this I believe.

I am no expert but "off limits" are generally more attractive to a person.

I know this might seem like the most inappropriate comparison... but take the gay Chav fetish market for instance. Its quite a thriving scene because Chav lads in Nike trackies and TNs stereotypically aren't gay and are seen as "off limits" and have that appeal that they are hard to get.

Not to say men from other places are "off limits" or hard to get but they probably appeal to you more as they are few and far between to your regular local dude.

I have a lovely husband who is so well suited to me (we are so similar personality wise) and is from the same place as me! But I do agree to an extent. We love to do small group tours etc when we're travelling so tend to meets lots of Americans for example. I generally find them to be so much more chatty and open than us (Irish/British) folk and there is something very attractive in that, I think as I myself tend to be quite aloof and withholding.

Same. But with Northerners. I am a Londonder and live on the outskirts of Liverpool. I find scousers more friendly, jokey and outspoken than men from my home city. I have dated a few men from here and my boyfriend is from here... he always says he don't think he could go with a girl who grew up hometown ever again if we ever broke up and likewise for me.

I love dating guys who are from different places. I have this thing for foreign accents, particularly Nordic, Spanish or Dutch 😂 don’t ask me why 😂

I'm from Scotland too, my husband is Irish. He's not exactly from "abroad" in a sense but IMO it's far enough to make a difference 😆

I know exactly what you mean when you say Scottish guys rub you the wrong way! I think it's perfectly normal to be attracted to someone with different attributes to you. My husband (and I think most Irish men) have a charm about them that seems to be non existent in Scotland!! :ROFLMAO:

Yeah - I think part of it is a charm thing, never really felt a whole lot of charisma or charm from the average Scottish guy, particularly those in my age bracket. And they just never seem that physically attractive compared to other parts of Europe - the nice guy next door types are always more attractive to me and they just don't exist here in my age bracket plus few of them seem to have any interests outside of bloody football.

how funny, i love scottish men 😂
i think it's the feeling of an adventure, a different culture, something more interesting let's say? i am from one country, my boyfriend from another one, and we met in a third one unrelated to our home countries. we lived there and we now live in my home country. we will probably move to his in the future. it's kind of exciting. and i'm 100% not saying that this is a general thing however for me personally this has been the most interesting and fulfilling relationship i've had.

Yeah I definitely have a type that is not necessarily local to me! Luckily my husband fits this type albeit a few generations removed but enough.

This is exactly like my boyfriend and I, I'm British, he's French and we met in Spain. I love an international dating experience / relationship.

Would like to. Partly because I have commitment issues and I think the initial distance would ease my anxiety about it 😂 But mostly because I can't remember the last time I was excited to get to know a guy, I am bored to tears with everyone I meet here to the point where I've started to wonder if I'm actually asexual/aromantic and have been kidding myself all this time lol. Don't think this is actually the case, I just hate the fish in the dating pool here and for someone who hates dating to begin with (feels like job application with wine to me), having to wade through dull as duck dudes that I'm not even attracted to is a pain. London was my fave haha. I don't know if I could survive the pace of dating there either, I find most people incredibly boring in general (not that I'm a living legend, mind you) but at least there were super attractive guys that I'd happily sit and stare like a bloody creep. 😂

This thread had potential! I'm resurrecting it. 😁

What's wrong with the average Scottish man's personality? I've only ever met a few. @glasgow27 @Readread
Scottish men always seem to have good hair. And stay slim.
I wouldve liked a Scottish boyfriend or Irish simply for the accent
