Anyone else hate confrontation online?

I'm finding this happening increasingly where it seems that people can get quite aggressive when speaking to them online if you have a differing opinion. One forum in particular (there used to be a thread about it on here) has triggered quite a few instances of me feeling down for as long as a day over the years. I think that I fear it for some reason. Same with Twitter. Also I'm afraid of posting on Reddit after getting some really horrible DM's there a few years ago over a view that someone didn't like (I think there are a lot of nasty trolls on there) and also because the downvotes system makes me think people hate me.

I don't know why I feel this way online because I'm perfectly fine with arguing with people in person, I've always enjoyed debating, I study politics and am always of the type to have an argument over an issue but still be on perfectly good terms with someone afterwards. But it's just something about the online aspect that is damaging to my mental health. Tattle is just about the only forum where I don't feel on edge and I really do appreciate that. :)

Anyone else feel the same way? How do I get over it?

I think the best thing I've found is just to depersonalise a forum as much as possible. Kind of like hop in and hop out. Then just go on with the day. Same with social media, I just keep it really light. Scroll a bit and that's it. I never comment on anything or get into debates.

Debating with people online is like trying to rationalise with a drunk person, there's a part of them missing. Which is reasoning, just can't get through. Unfortunately it's just too easy for people not to have much of a conscience online. It's getting a lot better but the internet is very much still the Wild West.

I hate confrontation online but I also hate feeling like I can’t voice my opinion! But I’m trying to remember that everyone has different views and just because someone disagrees with you, means nothing more than that. They just disagree with you, it doesn’t go further than that :)

also remember you’ll never meet that person, and you’ll have so many interactions in your life that these little ones won’t even be significant. People often voice their opinion/can get aggressive online because they are hiding behind a screen, but it doesn’t mean anything

I hate confrontation full stop. I know that it comes from my childhood traumas and lack of confidence or self esteem. I can sometimes find myself getting really upset and anxious about confrontation online and then I feel silly. As someone above said, I try and depersonalise it. I don’t use another forum but I try and keep social media quite light hearted also and I try not to spend too long online or else I find myself overthinking things.

Yep I hate confrontation, online and in real life. I avoid it as much as I can, I don’t really put comments online that I think would massively spark an argument or disagreement I try and just keep it neutral - I think both online and in real life you can have an opinion or have your say without it coming across as you being argumentative.
Some people online though unfortunately are just constantly looking for trouble or an argument, they say things they definitely wouldn’t be brave enough to say in the real and the best thing about them being online is you can just ignore, or delete and block!

The best thing for dealing with it is not take it at all personally, maybe a term for it could be superficial hatred since I very much doubt they do hate you think of it as more of hatred of what you said if they do. But the best thing I'd say to do if you can is delete it if it were to happen again if you can and if not just simply ignore it really.

Reminds me of being on a forum nothing like this one years ago roughly back in 2012 when yeah got some actual categorical abuse about something I said, just didnt go on there again, eventually got them to delete the threat and just think like that place doesnt exist nothings come from that either

Hope you're doing ok?

Yeah exactly and the likely reason is they're bored is probably the reason they do that
