I left my old job because I had a colleague who was just a literal nightmare. She was always careful to save her outbursts for days when management were working at other sites. She'd complain about her workload (even though I actually did a few tasks that were within her remit because it was easier for me to do it than to have the battle with her). She would yell and scream about all sorts of things, have complete meltdowns about her boyfriend having to go away for work. It was constant. She was always bitching about other colleagues while pretending to be nice as pie to them. I was really friendly with her initially but I just couldn't ignore her behaviours anymore ( I also found other colleagues difficult to gel with, they were a bit cliquey but nice enough). I'd try to pacify her when she was having meltdowns, tell her to go and take a 5 minute walk to calm down, she never did. She wanted the attention.

She'd constantly be emailing managers asking for a payrise, and not understanding that she was underperforming. I earned a little bit more than her, but only because my role was a bit more specialised and technical (she was first line support in an area, I was second line support in a slightly different area if that makes sense). I didn't realise how much she actually resented the fact that my role paid more.

She then started saying stuff that made me so uncomfortable. We had a colleague who bless her heart was lovely, but just really not great at the job, so would ask questions a lot. It required a lot of patience. My other colleague would be nice to her face and then one day she turned to me and said I can't bleeping wait until she leaves, bleeping witch. There were other instances like this. We were having a move around and the person taking my job was going to have my desk, and she said she better bleeping not sit next to me that cow. Then turn around and ask her how her wedding planning was going and how excited she was.

Anyway, enough was enough and I actually ended up signed off work for a couple of weeks because it was another thing stressing me out on top of other things going on. I came back and wanted to leave so had applied for other jobs. While I was off she'd gone around telling everyone in the office what a complete witch I was for not telling her that I was going on sick leave (yes, really). Things all started coming out and it was clear she was playing colleagues off each other. She'd talk about another team to me, but then she was talking tit about me to them. She said I was overpaid and a stuck up witch. She had said awful things about my colleagues such as because they were privately educated, they didn't know how to socialise in a real job etc. We ended up making a complaint to management about it (she was underperforming, so an investigation was already ongoing). She had a meeting with management the week after I left and apparently she went absolutely ballistic and said I'd conspired to get her the sack or something.

I hope to christ I never see her again, she is just horrible and I'm still a bit sensitive about it all, this was almost 2 years ago. Thankfully in my current job, everyone is pretty relaxed and I work in an office on my own!
This sounds just like a witch I was forced to work with for 2 and half years.
She made everyones life a misery.

Ugh my ex boss did this all the damn time; she had zero time management skills, basically did jack tit all morning killing time with things that should realistically take no longer than ten minutes, and then tried to squeeze everything in the last 30 minutes of our work day. You'd be sorting out your desk, gathering your things and the phone would ring and she'd be asking if you can come up to her office. And we had to keep waiting on stuff because she just would not get back to anyone until the last possible moment, which meant that everybody else would be rushing their arse off to meet a deadline. God, I hated her. So glad she's gone.
Urgh I hate things cropping up at the last minute because of someone else's incompetence. My manager gets emails to do things on a Wednesday and decides to give me the tasks on a Friday afternoon. When I asked why he couldn't give them to me earlier he just goes "you know I like leaving things until the last minute". Yeah, well I don't and you had a few days to tell me about this task so byeeee.

Lol I spoke to my friend today . She works in office and she had a bit of a thing with a manager. The manager actually said to her ‘remember who you are talking to’ I couldn’t believe it. My friend bless her soul said she had to get ready and manager said ‘your not even ready yet , you are getting ready in work time’ 😂 Xxx who the hell gets ready during lockdown?

The same kind of people that does duck all Monday - Friday morning, and send in an urgent request at Friday afternoon with a 4.30pm deadline.

I’ve been at the same job for 2 years now and there’s one woman who works there who hates me for no apparent reason. At Christmas she gave everyone a Christmas card (literally everyone) delivered them round the office, including my colleague sat next to me, and just walked off like I didn’t even exist 🤣😅
What a mole.

I work in an office with 2 other women (both older than me by 20+ years). One of them talks non stop. All day. And I’m not exaggerating. She gives a running commentary on what she’s doing, reads us the news even though we’ve not asked, updates us on her friends personal lives even though I have no idea who they are, constantly complaining about her husband, talking about cycling (I hate cycling!), always talks about food ( one of those being good/bad people!!) always bitching about people in our dept. aaaaarrrrrrggghhhh. I put my AirPods in to drown her out but she taps me on the shoulder if I don’t reply 😢😢😢 or I can feel her eyes staring into my soul so I turn around and she’s looking at me for a reply. new job pending!!!

I find the generational gap the biggest issue with people I work with. They seem to think that they can do what they want?! The confidence say that age is astounding 😂 . I totally agree with you here. Some people just whitter on. I work with a lady like this, she is 20+ years older than me as well and lives alone so she must be lonely then I feel bad!!!!

I work with a lady 20+ years older than me. She often makes big mistakes and it’s expected that I fix them. I email instructions and leave her to it now. I spoke to management and said I’m not doing it anymore as she will never learn and she should know her job better than I do. 😈

People who get away with taking time out of the work day to run personal errands.
There is a woman in my office who goes out at least twice everyday to run errands on work time and not on her lunch hour. She has an adult son who she talks about like he is a child, she leaves everyday to pick him up if it’s raining because he can’t drive, and drops off lunches to him, because he can’t cook.

I have just read this and I wonder if we work at the same place because there’s a similar situation with someone at my work 🤣

I have different work hours to all of my colleagues and finish an hour before them.
Receptionist sent me a snotty email saying that when I log off my calls bounce to her. She wants me to stay online so that she doesnt have to take a call for me. It is literally her job to take the calls.
My reply was basically tough deal with it.

thought I would elaborate on this!

The one time that stands out in particular was many years ago when I worked in an office with two other women (part of a much larger team but we were all split between smaller offices throughout the building). there was a woman in her early 30s with a young son - she was part time, and then me in my mid 20s at the time and an older lady in her 60’s, we were both full time.
The older lady was widowed and every year she would go away on holiday with her daughter who was a teacher, so could only get time off during the school holidays. So as soon as the annual leave calendar opened up at the start of year year she would get that holiday booked in .

This one year, it must’ve been around Jan/Feb and me and my partner at the time were looking at booking a holiday abroad for later that year. As I am childfree I do not like to go away during school holiday times. We had been looking at going away in late September and I mentioned to my colleagues that we were looking to do this and I’d checked the annual leave chart to see which weeks were free. We then went to the travel agents that weekend and got some prices for holidays at that time. Went back into work the following week and spoke to colleagues to tell them what we were hoping to do, what the dates were, and I said that if it was okay with everybody I was going to get the holiday booked. My colleague with the child said to me oh no you can’t book that week off. I asked why not and she said “well I don’t know if I’m going to need to pick my son up from school that week if my husband can’t, because he usually does it!” So basically she wanted me to not book a holiday for a situation which may or may not occur in several months time because she is so self entitled.

I actually went to speak to my manager after that because I could not for the life of me see a reason why I would have to wait to book a holiday due to a hypothetical situation.

There have also been times when myself and various colleagues have had to take on extra work to cover colleagues with children who have taken last minute time off for things like nursery school graduations -basically huge double standards. The same manager who expected me to cover in such circumstances then refused me half a day of annual leave when my Mum was in hospital.

i’ve no doubt that juggling children and working is very difficult at times but I think it’s the double standards and preferential treatment I cannot stand. You’ve chosen to have kids and you’re in a workplace with other people who may not have children but still have families and responsibilities so it should absolutely be equal treatment across-the-board.

I also remember a time when I had a temp job through an agency and so luckily did not have to get involved in any annual leave politics! I was in this particular job over the Christmas period. I came into work the one morning a few days before Christmas, to find several of the permanent staff members standing around the annual leave chart *for the following year* on the wall, arguing about who would be taking the day off around the August bank holiday 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 I remember feeling very glad that I was not a permanent employee there because there was so much politics.

nice 🤣

I once had a colleague who to be fair was really lovely... and she wasn’t doing anything wrong at all here...but every morning without fail at around 11 am, she would eat a banana at her desk. The smell of them makes me gag...I just cannot bear them... so I’d be sitting there trying not to throw up when she was eating it and then she would put the skin in the bin right next to me and it would stink all day 👍😂
All this talk of people with kids having to have to school holidays of reminded me of somewhere I worked at over 20 years ago. I was one of a large group of Receptionists at a GP Surgery and we had one self-appointed leader, there is always one, who insisted that the only people who were allowed to take leave during the school holidays were those with school age children 😮. Obviously those of us without children have no commitments or responsibilities that entail us having to take leave during school holidays. Thankfully I was only there for a couple of years.

In my next job I worked with somebody who had a term-time only contract, her only child was 25 at that point 😆

A fellow nurse is constantly looking for volunteers to record tik tok dance routine videos with her 🤦‍♀️ I'd rather debride a necrotic appendage!! This is not what the NHS pays us for. Funny how she always finds the time. Then the sad voice "its to cheer every one up". All she wants is to go viral and live off tiktok 😂😂

Why did you bother listening to her, surely there must have been a practice manager who should be in charge of all of you.

same, this is one of the reasons I was glad to start WFH to be honest, various colleagues all trying to rope people into tiktok dances and acting like anyone who didn't was a spoilsport. I don't particularly use social media, except to stay in touch with people, I don't want some embarassing dance with me in viewed by god knows who

I don't have tik tok but Instagram has loads of reels of dance challenges now and it’s just cringe! Why would anyone want to sit and watch 800 videos of the same dance? Or the same friggin feta pasta!!

Same woman as yesterday is driving me absolutely mental. She needed maximum IT support from me today (I don't work in IT we both work in HR but I'm good with technology) I've got patience with some things because (old ppl) but not knowing how to drag a page to your other screen is kind of thick. We use dual monitors and it's easy

She also kept coming to check up on me even though she has no management responsibility nor did she set me my tasks 🙄 then proceeded to chat to "her carol" for 20 minutes next to my desk. You barely know her huni. She will also send me an email and then walk across the office to check I've read it 🤯

I'm keeping it buttoned for now! TGFT (THANK GOD FOR TATTLE)
