Annoying housemates

Anyone want to share their stories?

to start - one of my housemates is so rude despite presenting as quite friendly. When I moved in he said we’d go for drinks all together which never happened because he kept making terrible excuses, then he always makes power grabs by complaining about things and getting passive aggressive, even when he is the one not doing X which pisses me off or not doing Y which would stop the problem in the first place. He even messaged me over Christmas to complain about something which really stressed me out as he was suggesting I could be financially liable for some damage, even though nothing happened in the end (he could have messaged once he had checked, right?!)

Not lived in a shared house since 2001, thankfully. Me and two friends shared, one moved out to live with her boyfriend so another girl moved in. Without me knowing beforehand, the new girl's boyfriend also moved in. He was so annoying! He used to repeat lines off the TV in a really annoying loud voice. He always seemed to be in the house, even though he was a full time chef. He was so thick, on purpose, always butting into conversations about politics saying it was all crap, saying we were snobs for reading the Guardian or talking about the theatre. He was talking about boxing and horse racing or asking if we wanted to put a bet on. However, the most annoying thing he did was turn the heating down and change the timings for it. I wouldn't have minded so much but they only paid a third of the rent and bills rather than split it between 4 of us. He was always cooking but never once cooked for us, don't know what he did with all the food. I would rather live in a tent than share a house again and I've only lived in one.

I spent two periods living in shared houses. These totalled about five years. I had quite a few housemates during that time and there were some negative issues with nearly all of them.

Only ever shared a flat twice and both times I was working a summer in Magaluf back in 2012. first flat was fine, I was sharing a room with a guy i was seeing but then just good friends which was nice for about a week lol, we shared the flat with the landlord and her weird friend. the landlord used to get drunk ALOT then would make strange squealing noises in her sleep and her weird mate just didn't like anyone.. the guy i friendly with was a DJ in a Karaoke bar and we would both work till the early hours of the morning, majority of the time we were all like passing ships so it was fine but just such weird vibes from the weird friend who clearly didn't like sharing a flat with people. her bedroom was just off the living room so if i was sat watching tv she would have to walk past to go to the bathroom, it was a strange layout and doesn't really work when the whole atmosphere is so awkward. I moved out and moved in with 3 girls and guy in this tiny 3 bed appt. people would keep using your shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/razors/toothpaste etc so you could not leave anything in the bathroom and even if you hid the stuff in amongst your clothes people would come and rifle through you stuff and just borrow or take what they wanted. No locks on the door. tiny kitchen which was always disgusting and people would steal your food so you just don't bother ever eating there. One night I came home from work and someone had tried to get into my laptop! another time someone stole about 200 euro from me and a ticket I had for a gig!.. last straw was when my camera got stole and my suitcase which ended up being the landlord's doing! Caught him out when I saw him trying to sell the camera on facebook.. oh and same day they moved some guy into the spare bed in my room and he brought a girl back who left her ratty extensions everywhere and they both tried to have really loud sex in the bed in our room! awful!! there were nicer places to live, i just got very unlucky. Put me off big time, when I went home I lived with my mum for a further 8 years before moving in with my partner.

My last shared house, had paper thin walls. The guy in the room next to me used to have really loud sex, at the most random times of day and night. Never saw whoever it was he was having sex with, but there were definitely a couple of different “other” voices.

Oh there are so many stories I could tell of annoying house/flatmates.

Probably the most annoying was when I was in a house share with me, two other single people and a couple. It was a month-to-month tenancy and I had gone away for the weekend to visit family on the Friday evening. That weekend the couple had attempted to pour a very large pot of cooking lard down the kitchen sink. This had, quite obviously, blocked the drain and filled over half the sink. They decided to solve this by filling the rest of the sink with water. It did not drain and just made a sink full of cold lard soup.

By the time I got back on Sunday night every room had an end-of-tenancy notice pinned to the door. Understandable on the part of the landlord (they didn't know who had fucked up their plumbing) but really annoying nonetheless.

Wow That’s brutal!!! Kind of reminds me of living abroad with this couple and they were doing some reporting of plants in the bath, I think all the soil ended up messing with the drains and then our bath was full of sewage water for a few days... soooo gross!
