The way I see it - all I want to do on these types of holidays is get some rest, have some good food and drink, and read by the pool and forget about everything else! If I wanted culture I'd not be going to a resort in Tenerife

Ohhhh this is my kinda thread 
I don’t get the snobbery around all inclusive to be honest, whatever floats your boat. Me and my partner have to go on holiday during his work shut down which is end of July/August so we always have to pay a bit more due to it being school holidays and the price difference to upgrade to all inclusive is hardly anything. We tend to do all inclusive for ease as when we go it’s always roasting and it’s handy to just be able to get up and get a drink from the bar without worrying if you have any change on you etc, however we do like to explore so we make sure we’re around 30 mins or less walk from the local town and we still have our tea out 2 or 3 times during the week
I used to be a travel agent for many years until a few months ago when sadly my store was closed and I was made redundant (it is a devastating time for the industry they are on their knees) and I’ll always love it. To the OP - the BQ Alcudia Sun you mentioned was always a good seller when I worked for a large tour operator who no longer exists, had many customers who went who only had great things to say

I’m no longer in the industry but it’s still a passion of mineI would recommend the Titanic Royal in Hurghada in Egypt. We went in December 2020 and have rebooked for November of this year although now Egypt are being moved to the red list it’s looking less likely that will be happening.
The hotel was fantastic, it was beautiful, very clean. Very good food for an AI. My partner usually struggles to eat AI, but eat wonderfully 3 meals a day. The staff were very attentive and could t do enough for you, and there were children’s slides and a splash park. It’s also got it’s own private beach and the sea was very shalllw for a good distance out to sea. I will be devastated if we have to cancel and rebook elsewhere but it is somewhere we will definitely return to.

I know some people hate All Inclusive but we’ll always choose that option now. We want rest and relaxation.

I booked the Pineda splash but ended up changing hotels last minute before we went. Glad we did. There’s not a lot to do in pineda de mar. We drove through the town whilst we were on holiday and we were glad we changed! It’s a really small town. lots of the reviews I saw commented on there not being much to do which was one reason we decided to change. We went to nearby lloret de mar which had much more to do
I love an all inclusive, i think it’s so worth it. Especially as like you say, in the heat you’re always drinking and it would cost a lot of you had to pay every time.
My favourite thing about AI is that if you don't want to spend any extra once you're there you don't have to!
When me and my husband first got together we did some self catering holidays and the food and drink for the week wasn't cheap.
With AI you don't need to worry that every bottle of water is costing you €3 etc.
We always try to stay in hotels that have a couple of restaurants other than the main buffet restaurant just so you get a change of scenery. This is mainly as we tend to stay for 2 weeks and 14 nights of the same restaurant is a bit too much and we have mainly done AI in Egypt/Morocco/Cape Verde where it isn't easy to access a restaurant outside of the hotel.
If we are staying somewhere like canary islands we would potentially stay somewhere with only the 1 restaurant so long as it is walking distance to the town where we know we could go out for dinner for a change of scenery but at an additional cost

I love the Mar Hotels Playa Mar & Spa at the moment, it has really positive reviews on trip advisor and looks lovely, but it’s slightly more expensive for next summer than my other favs. Cheaper to go in May half term though or even Easter hols but not sure how warm it would be in April.

We stayed in a small adults only hotel in St Lucia all inclusive a few years ago and it was amazing!! We went in low season so we got a good deal (would never have been able to afford it normally) and it was pretty quiet too. They let us order multiple things off the menu for breakfast, no limits, and in our room there was a fully stocked bar with wine, bottles of spirits and beers that would be replaced daily if you managed to get through it.. we didn’t even touch it! My bf had never done AI before and by the end of the week he was not in a good way...

Make sure the resort is adult only and it isn't just certain blocks. Some if the big UK tour operators sell adult only holidays but the actual hotel still have children in it! We only realised from the reviews on trip advisor
I love a food all inclusive, last year we went to hilton dalaman in Turkey (never been turkey, never wanted to go but it was pretty much our only option) and would go back again tomorrow if I could

AI isn’t a big thing in Portugal so I wouldn’t book it there, I would go for somewhere like Tenerife, Cape Verde, Mexico or somewhere like that

Also a side note, but I met some Scottish people in Malaga before who called it “All includio” and thought it was the best thing ever lol

but honestly I never book with the big tour operators and I always go with the independent holiday operators , always go with the same girl
she normally comes in £500-600 cheaper than the likes of tui or jet2 and that’s with flight upgrades , room upgrade and airport lounge access

I find Tui and Jet2 so expensive. I guess you may not get a rep on site and your flight will be nothing fancy when booking with an independent or smaller company but I can live with that if it means I’m paying less.
Their free child place offers are good but they get snapped up quickly and still don’t always work out cheaper.

I too had never wanted to visit Turkey but after taking the plunge a few years ago I would go back in a heartbeat. I’ve stayed in amazing hotels all over the world but nothing has matched the quality, level of service and relaxation I’ve experienced in Turkey. It’s been close but Turkey just beats them.
My Jet2 holiday to Lanzarote 2 years ago was over £1k cheaper than booking DIY so it does pay to double check.
I’ve had a few holidays cancelled due to C19 and Jet2 have been a straight forward cancellations and money back in my account within 48 hours whereas the others (not a package) have been an absolute pain to get money back on. I’d personally avoid DIY right now.

I didn’t mean DIY , I meant like independent holiday operators , we use holidaysplease for ours and so much cheaper than the big ones
she was amazing in covid for our honeymoon last year , she moved our location twice from mexicoto Greece and then to Scotland and we never lost a penny on it
I’d love the Dalaman!, it was all booked up in the rooms we wanted a few years ago , it looked stunning.
Ok so I took the plunge and booked Mar Hotels Playa Mar & Spa in Majorca through LoveHolidays, late July 2022, 2 adults 2 kids for 5 nights all inclusive. Including flights, transfers and a small fee for paying in instalments it’s come to around £1900. I don’t think this is too bad?
I figured school holiday breaks sell fast and I’m unlikely to get it for that much cheaper, I also might not be able to get the exact dates/length of stay/room I want if I wait. I looked at prices for this august as a comparison and although it was slightly cheaper, I’m guessing they are cheaper to try and entice people to book during these uncertain times. I can imagine next year when things hopefully are more back to normal when it comes to travel, demand will be higher and prices will increase as a result. If I’m wrong, then I’m wrong. Main thing is we’ve got a lovely holiday to look forward to and I’d kick myself if I held off booking and prices kept rising and rising.
Could have spent a little less at a different resort and maybe booked for longer, but this place seems so perfect and has everything we are looking for, whereas the others I looked at within my price range felt like they were missing something. Hopefully it lives up to my expectations. Only 13 months to go
