I couldn't find a thread for this sorry if it already exists. Anything for advice, tips, questions and tricks!

We need to visit a family member on a long flight. My partner wants to fly premium and I want to fly economy economy. Neither of us drink and neither are tall and will only take carry on so the extra benefits of more expensive tickets are a waste of money I think!

The difference is £1200 vs £450 PP. You can pay extra in the economy to get a legroom seat but that means normal economy+50 + £160 seat fee each so £760. I don't think it's worth this either as it's nearly double. WWYD? I haven't flown in years but 12 hours in economy doesn't seem that bad.

How long haul are we talking? I’ve flown long haul both economy and 1st class and honestly, unless it’s over 14 hrs or there is a genuine need to feel fresh and rested on arrival, I don’t think the extras in 1st class are worth the price difference. Obvs if money is no object then it’s a nice treat. Picking the right time of the flight does help, an overnight flight would mean you are more likely to get at least some sleep. Neck cushion/ eye mask and ear plugs make a huge difference.

Me an my brother got offered first class during hurricane sandy when we needed back to new jersey asap (was a free upgrade), am not going lie it was a fun experience but there is a absolutely nothing that was worth what those tickets cost, so long as you will be comfortable (you said you aren't tall) then I'd say it's fine, you still are getting fed the same food an drink as everyone else, the only difference to us in first class was it was served in porcelain dishes an had metal cutlery an we got a hot towel that me an my bro found fun lol, but it was still same food, for me because of my anxiety I can choose to either board first or last (I typically pick last so it's less time sitting about waiting) so boarding for me wasn't much different an they are usually pretty quick at boarding anyway, there's always still plenty room to put the cases above is, I think once we had to place them a little up from us but tbh no one touches them on flight so it's fine if they aren't next to you, the only real benefit to first class I'd say is boarding first an when you get off your case is one of the first coming off, but aside from that an maybe the lounge before flight (we didn't use it) then it's a lot of money for still getting to the place at the same time
