just after some job advice really, if you lovely people could point me in a good direction, I've no qualifications left school and started a family young, relationship broke down which I was only working p/t, he took the car etc, children grown up and I'm now with someone new, I'm stuck on where to look for work, I've no transport so I'm reliant on bus/walk, with this current situation there is not a lot of work in my area, I did get a job but then virus happened and it closed down before I even started working there! I'm not really in a position to train as money is tight so I need monthly income, my new partner has his own bills to pay etc so can't support me forever .

Oh poor you - sounds worrying.
I think supermarkets are always looking for staff these days - if there is one anywhere near you.
Also they are crying out for carers - I don't think you need specific qualifications but can prove you have a caring and practical nature and obviously get a police check which the company can advise you on - 'Home Instead' seem good and seem to need people asap - I've looked into them myself.
Good luck.

Indeed is a really good website for a variety of jobs.

Supermarkets are definitely crying out for people.

If you wanted to look at longer term careers ambitions the prison service and police force are recruiting and give you paid training x

Don’t let fear of qualifications put you off applying for places. If I’m looking to hire someone I don’t even look at them to be honest. I can count on 1 hand the amount of my qualifications that have been useful to my career- for the rest I’m completely self taught (I’m a programmer and Data Scientist)

If you’re really unsure of what you’d like to do or have an interest in something and haven’t had chance to try it out or are restricted due to money then take a look on Udemy. HotUKDeals sometimes flags up when courses are free and there’s a whole variety of them. At the moment I have courses in loads of stuff- from coding to makeup artistry.

A lot of jobs boil down to how you come across as a person. Enthusiasm to learn and being personable go a long long way.

Home Instead are indeed a good company but they are a franchise operation so different areas can have different ethics even though they are all meant to adhere to the same standards. Care jobs are generally back to back meaning that you don't get paid for any time travelling or between jobs so not having a car is a real disadvantage.
If there is a care home near you then most employ 'bank' workers who they will train and employ on an 'as need' basis to cover shifts at short notice so this may be an option?

Try a supermarket - you don’t need any qualifications, there’s usually flexible shifts, you will meet loads of new people and it’s a regular wage. You could always look for other jobs or start training once you are settled in.

You have many transferable skills you have learnt over the years, which employers are crying out for. For example: time management when dealing with your children, planning, multitasking, creative thinking etc. Perhaps post-lockdown look at volunteering in areas you are interested to see if it is an area you're interested in? Mean time, supermarkets, banks, and carers (although sometimes need drivers), and sometimes charities if you can show your passion for a particular area. If interested in science, NHS and universities have all sorts so worth checking them too. Something you can ask at interview is training opportunities. Good luck.

Retail will be your best bet for now, it’s fairly easy to get into if your presentable, friendly and willing to work hard. I think now is a good time tbh with the shops opening back up soon there will probably be quite a lot of positions going. Some people will have had to leave jobs or cannot return for some reason.

I’m desperate for a job! Don’t want to give too many details about my life but I’m a young single mum, I really want to get back to work, I’m tired of being poor and not being able to afford food and also for the social aspect, I need a break from my child. I live in the middle of no where, buses are crap and every 2 hours, no train station, no childminders or nursery’s. I don’t know what to do. Every job I’ve looked at requires you to have a driving licence or own car. If I did get a job in my town (they’re rare) then I’d need to get the bus to the next town to drop my child off at nursery then come back. He’s also too young for the “free hours”. Going back to college isn’t an option as I need a job for money, but I’d do an apprenticeship. I am currently studying an online course, but it’s hard finding the time, my son doesn’t settle properly to bed until really late (11/12) and after a bath and clean up of the house I’m too tired, exams will cost an absolute fortune. I tried doing a few online businesses (not mlm, more like buying things wholesale) but I made very little money and ended up spending loads on buying stock & equipment and made myself worse off. What can I do? I’ve always wanted to work in business / finance (which is what my qualifications in) I have quite minimal work experience due to personal circumstances - homeless, care leaver, teen pregnancy. But I did do a temp retail job a couple years back for 3 months (bad I know) I’ve also done online webcamming (not going to mention it to an employer) but the works just not there anymore
Advice?

What about some online audio typing/pa? I’m not sure of the requirements or the exact website (but I’m sure someone here will).

If that’s not an option, do you have a hospital near? You could always enquire if they require any bank work or look on the NHS jobs website - you may need to start at the bottom, but it’s a start.

Its a really tough time at the moment because many businesses are in a difficult situation with the unknown of whether they're going to be able to continue trading etc and what the futute holds for them.
I'm assuming with no childcare or transport that you want to head down the wfh option?
Its a tough one with a young child too, especially if they need your attention 24/7.

What are you passionate about? L

I don’t want to work from home, personally I have before and I would still need childcare, irs impossible to work with a baby on me 24/7, plus I want to spend some time away from him and make friends. Business / finance

I’ve been looking at an apprenticeship at a doctors near me then discovered you need a car to travel to the different surgery’s they work with :/ Also trying to get an apprenticeship with the council as being a care leavers I am guaranteed an interview as part of their policy

Its such a tough one especially because you live so rural.

Probably going to need to make a change of some sort realistically.

As lovely as living somewhere like that is, it's a pain for working if you don't have access to transport. Is there an option for you to relocate so you have access to wider opportunities (career and travel)?

To be honest, the place I live is really lovely, I couldn’t choose a better place for my child to live. It’s a coastal town, I could of got a temp summer job but don’t know if they’ll be around this summer. There are all year round business’s too. But even then childcare is a problem

Indeed is very good for looking for jobs. Have you thought about going into childcare ?

Im in retail and am just in the process of being made redundant due to corona. Loads of places have recruitment freezes on at the moment as the economy slowly curls up and dies. Its really tough out there

I’ve worked in retail but had to be really flexible for that, our working hours weee told on sundays for the week ahead, don’t think a childminder or nursery would change the bourse every week

I don’t have a clear dbs

Thinking maybe doing deliveroo although I’m really unfit would most probably need an electric bike

Thank you everyone, it’s so hard out there atm, working from home is something I’d be interested in but I wouldn’t know where to start 🤷‍♀️😊 xx

I need some advice on what to do over a job vacancy that was offered to myself.
I applied for a job on a job advertising website on 13th June as I was told that day I was being made redundant 😔. The following morning I got a phone call from the recruitment agency about the job I’d applied for and also for another one that could be suitable, however it’s salary was £1k below what I was wanting.
I said go for it and send my cv to them, too, because it would be great to get interview practice.
I had to keep chasing him up about both jobs to see if I’d got an interview and it wasn’t until a week later when he got back to me and told me the job I applied for hadn’t got back to him and and the one he found for me would be now £2k less than what I would want as a salary match! So I think he’s kind of fobbed that one off 😕 and the job I applied for had now been filled with someone internally 😤

I’ve been looking again at jobs all day again today and the job that was a lower salary is still being advertised on a different website but the same recruiters name. And it’s still showing the salary at £1k less rather £2k less as to what I was on in my last job.

Now I know who the company is as he sent me the job spec with the company name in it, I’m in two minds to contact them myself and ask them about the job but I feel like I’ll be going behind my recruiters back 🤨 like I’m being sneaky (I call it pro active! He rarely returns my calls or emails!) I’m willing to take a pay cut. I’ve been furloughed and now I have no job 😭

What do I do?!

I would contact the company and go for it. The recruiter doesn't owe you anything.. you don't have a contract with him. They are simply a third party who bridges up the gap between you and employer and technically you don't need them. If the employer liked you and gives you the job then they save the extra comission they would have given the recruiter to find you for them. So just go for it... What have you got to lose? On the plus side you may get a job 😉
