Adopting from abroad

Not much to say as a preface, but does anyone have any experience of adopting from abroad? What do people think about adopting from abroad vs adopting from the UK? How does the process compare to adopting from the UK, costs, etc.

Why would you want to adopt from abroad as opposed to the uk? (genuinely asking out of curiosity rather than to stoke an argument x)
