One of the best, most gripping dramas I have watched in a very long time. Simply superb

HIGHLY recommend this. I looked it up and this is Owen Cooper's (Jamie) first acting role!! He was superb. Not easy to go toe-to-toe with such established actors and hold your own, but he really shone in this role. Episode 3 especially.

I binged all 4 episodes this evening… cried pretty much all the way through. Absolutely brilliant acting by all.

I swear to CHRIST media literacy is absolutely dead. Bury it, cremate it, I don't care, but it is deceased.

I was watching a video on YouTube about this show, and there are SO many comments going on about 'The end was boring, coz I thought there was going to be a plot twist. I thought the dad did it and it would be revealed that he was letting his son take the rap'

and 'The dad did it though, right? He got n0nse sprayed on his van'

and 'I thought the dad would take the store guy's advice and get a really good lawyer to prove his son's innocence'

and 'I was waiting for episode 5 where he would be proved innocent'.

HOLY CRAP

I guess the fact that they literally had CCTV of Jamie stabbing her just didn't mean anything to them. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I think this is one where you have to watch it again to catch all the little things you missed the first time round. However, it’s a definite gut punch so I’ll leave it for a bit.

Stephen Graham is a force to be reckoned with. I mentioned on another thread that The Virtues never left me (there are scenes in that with him in that are equally breathtaking) and this is the same I think.

I read somewhere that the young actor hadn’t done anything before- if so, he’s unbelievable. The way he acted episode 3 was crazy.

People can piss off if they think everything needs a twist. This just showed life, schools, kids and people in their grim reality.

I think it comes from many years of these type of shows having a twist. I admit part of me was wondering if a twist was going to come. You go in expecting the standard crime drama, usually a mystery, but its so much deeper than that.

I agree a little that the final episode was the weakest one, especially at the start. But the second part was excellent.

I also thought that the main cast were only in a max of 2 episodes really worked well. Even though I'd liked to have seen more of them.

Stephen Graham is amazing!! Favourite has to be him as Combo in "This is England". He plays psychos so well.

If this show gets awards recognition then I hope that Owen Cooper doesn’t get ignored just because he’s a child. His work in episode 3 is some of the best acting I’ve seen, regardless of age. What an episode. Erin Doherty is amazing too of course.

I agree. Stephen is getting a lot of the attention, and he is excellent. But I think Owen Cooper, and Erin actually, are ahead of him. That episode was a masterclass

This is one of the best series I have watched in a very long time - I have had to rewatch it, to make sure I havent missed pieces. A lovely thing I read earlier - all of the boys who sent in audition tapes to the director, to play Jamie - were then used in the school scenes - so they were included.

Kind of linked to the 'no twist talk', this (and Toxic Town) really didn’t feel like a Netflix sho. To me it felt like the best of BBC or ITV drama

I tried to read more about this online. I agree the kids acting was amazing. However during the psychology visit, she got very upset at the end of the session (understandable).
j didn’t confess directly, but in other ways he did. Is she taking this as a confession?!? ( my analytical curiosity in a psychological point of view)

I’m shocked so many people are raving about this! I hated it and I’m really surprised as I usually love SG and shows like this.

Had to watch it all once we’d started. I couldn’t stop crying😩 I was thinking is there going to be some twist but I’m so glad there wasn’t. All the more harrowing because it was so simple and true to life compared to some of the crime thrillers I’m used to watching

I'm not too sure. I'm still trying to process everything. Finished the series last night. Stephen Graham said some of this episode was improvised. Even more amazing.

To have a young actor improvise like that is beyond belief.

The school episode wasn’t as shocking to me because I used to live that. Schools can be brutal, I don’t think many people really realise what some can be like.
