I think people with a lack of curiosity are truly one of my least favorite kinds of people. And they're beyond frustrating to work with too. I can't relate to people like this at all.It says so much about Adam that he only has two frames of reference for anything - '80s movies and Disney. No curiosity about art and history and the amazing places he it travelling through, the people who lived there and the things they did. I'm not saying he needs to turn into an intellectual scholar, but there appears to be zero natural curiosity. Even when it comes to reading signs about what he is looking at (As @dirtnap101 often points out in his summaries)
A quick AI search on lack of curiosity in people gave me this, and boy does it sound like someone we know....
People with a lack of curiosity may display a reluctance to learn new things, a resistance to new ideas, and a tendency to focus on the past rather than the future. This can stem from various factors, including feeling like they already know everything, having an unchecked ego, or struggling with learning new things. It can also be influenced by lifestyle, upbringing, and even feelings of pain or insecurity.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Signs of a lack of curiosity:
Possible causes of a lack of curiosity:
- Resistance to new information:
A person might avoid learning new things or dismiss new ideas, even if presented with evidence.
- Focus on the past:
They may be stuck in their ways and resistant to change, preferring to dwell on past experiences rather than exploring new possibilities.
- Lack of questions:
They might not ask questions or seek to understand things they don't already know.
- Closed-mindedness:
They may have a strong sense of certainty about their beliefs and be unwilling to consider alternative perspectives.
- Difficulty learning new things:
This can stem from a lack of motivation or a belief that learning is too difficult.
- Contentment with the status quo:
They may be satisfied with their current level of knowledge and not feel the need to expand their understanding of the world.
- Feeling like they know everything:
This can be a major barrier to curiosity, as there's no motivation to learn if one believes they already possess all the knowledge.
- Ego and pride:
A strong ego can prevent people from admitting they don't know something and seeking out new information.
- Fear of failure:
Some may avoid learning new things out of fear of making mistakes or not being good enough.
- Lack of opportunity or resources:
People facing difficult life circumstances might not have the time or energy to pursue intellectual interests.
- Negative past experiences:
Previous negative experiences with learning or challenges can create a reluctance to engage with new information.
- Societal factors:
A culture that doesn't value curiosity or that rewards conformity can stifle the desire to learn and explore.
- Stress and fatigue:
Being constantly stressed or tired can make it difficult to engage with new information and ideas.
- Personality traits:
While not a universal rule, certain personality traits like introversion can sometimes be associated with a lower tendency to ask questions, although this is not the same as a lack of curiosity, according to some online discussions.
AI also had a very interesting summary on the long term effects that lack of curiosity has on a person as they age if people want to look into it.
100000:1 odds that he doesn't even know who this guy is.
Oh indeed...however, your team shows improvement, even fairly consistent improvement I would say.100000:1 odds that he doesn't even know who this guy is.
Meanwhile, Toronto slid into first while the Rays lost 2 of 3 to the Orioles and Athletics. It seems that our teams are performing to our expectations, huh, @dirtnap101?

This is what you get when your offseason plan is "sign Max Fried. That's it." A roster littered with homegrown position players that are - at best - just ok (Volpe, Rice, Wells), a starting staff that can't begin to overcome the loss of Cole in the long term (Yanks haven't produced an above-average starter that has stayed healthy for 3 seasons since never - Andy Pettitte?), and a bullpen that is made up of castoffs, journeymen and a closer who can't handle pitching in a place like the Bronx.
All I ask is one of two things: that the franchise worth over $10 billion dollars spends like it (a/k/a The Dodgers), or that if they are going to cheap out on salary and just pay 5 guys all the money, get a real GM and invest in people that know baseball and can scout properly so you don't end up with a roster full of league average (at best) players + Aaron Judge and hope for the best.
The Rays might not be in first place, but the Yankees used to be there and may never return this season. It's very bad in the Bronx right now, the org is rotten from the top down. Boone is an idiot. Players who were promising as rookies slowly get worse, then leave the Yankees and blossom. Gleyber Torres is having a career year, all he needed to do is get out of the Bronx.
I'm sure Adam is very happy, regardless of the Rays not being able to grab 1st so far.
Nope, I missed it. If we really went after it, we could make a pretty big list of he things he misses on these trips due to ignorance and poor planning. My 15 year old insisted on a picture with a portrait of Lafayette at Versailles because Lafayette is a favorite from the Hamilton musical (and the American Revolution). Two different worlds...Good grief! He actually goes up close to the Lafayette Monument, sees that the plaque is in French and so doesn't bother with it and moves on and starts rambling about a fictional street in a '80s TV movie.

I don't know French but I can tell from the plaque Lafayette had something to do with Washington and the American revolution, which would be very appropriate with the 4th of July a couple of days away. Instead he's going on about the first time he saw chess on tv??!
(Sorry if this was mentioned before, but I am watching this now and I am gobsmacked at his ignorance and poor planning)
It really is crazy how good the Yankees should be but aren't. At least with the Rays, given our payroll investment, expectations should always be realistically tempered. Definitely has to be more frustrating to be a Yankees fan. My 19-y/o son is into baseball and I was telling him recently about those 2000s Yankee teams that were so good with a lot of homegrown talent.Oh indeed...however, your team shows improvement, even fairly consistent improvement I would say.
