I had a free trial siZe of Estée Lauder advanced night repair last week when I bought new foundation, and I’ve never seen such a difference in my skin since using it. No idea what’s in it to have such a visible change like that but I am impressed!!

Was the foundation the New new foundation? What is it like if so?

Yes it was! I love it. I’ve never really found a foundation that I look or felt suited me... but this is immense. She also gave me a tester pot of the colour I bought so I could try and home and return it then if needed unopened which was a good idea. I felt it was too warm on me but actually suits well instead of a lighter shade and makes my skin look healthier

Boots own brand Vit C brightening moisturising cream (bright orange packaging) - again a lovely product. Very moisturising. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and really think I can see my skin is brighter. It does leave your skin quite glowy for a while upon application - maybe a bit too much if you have oily skin or don't like that but suits me. I read a review that it compares very well with the Ole Errikson Skin Brightening gel in similar packaging which is considerably dearer. No idea as haven't tried it. £4.

@Jelly Bean , do you have a link for that moisturiser by any chance? I've had a look on Boots website, but can only find the eye gel and cleanser.

Found a really nice face oil recently. Boots botanics restoring overnight facial oil. Quite like some of the botanics range and thought I’d give this a go. It’s very nice and only about £8.

I have spot prone skin and fingers crossed this hadn’t broke me out and my skin is looking clearer and hasn’t been so oily.

Found a new favourite moisturiser! Simple Quench Sleeping Cream. It’s almost gel like and so nice. My skin has really improved since using this I’m not having nearly as many breakouts and skin is nice and hydrated. I’m not a fan of their normal moisturisers but I saw this for half price in Sainsbury’s and thought I’d give it a go. Will definitely be repurchasing.

Hi! Desperately looking for some advice think that this forum may be best. Used Veet cold wax strips on my face (eyebrows and upper lip) and now have bad dark burns! So painful and tight. Does anyone have any ideas one what to do? Read so many conflicting advice about putting creams or gels on. Have applied savlon gel and ordered aloe Vera but any help would be lovely

I would try Avene or LRP cicalfate or sudocreme. That usually works for me when something has gone wrong.

New to this thread and a more layered routine too. Can anyone recommend a moisturiser for combination skin? My forehead and chin are always red and bumpy with spots that never breakthrough and my nose is a constant shine-fest - foundation slides off it in a matter of minutes. I get really bad breakouts around my nose too.

My skin can be quite sensitive too - it's been especially bad through pregnancy and even 9 months on, it can still react to the slightest thing so I'm wary of trying out new products, but I've been recommended a couple of products from Inkey List and The Ordinary to try out. But moisturiser is puzzling me as not sure what I'm looking for there! Suggestions welcome 😄

Dermalogica. Best products ever.

It's a little pricey; so start with the pre-cleansing oil or balm, first - use it with your normal cleanser to double-cleanse which is, in itself, life-changing.

I started off buying the little travel kits first to see how my skin reacted, before buying the regular-sized products. Buying the travel kits is a great way to try a number of products at the same time, too.

I would try Avene or LRP cicalfate or sudocreme. That usually works for me when something has gone wrong.
I second this - Avene is one of the most gentlest product ranges out there. I used all-Avene before moving to Dermalogica (I have sensitive skin and Avene was wonderful at keeping it under control).

Another wonderful product is Kiehl's skin rescuer.

Had to come on here to rave about two products I have bought which I LOVE!!!! Paulas choice calm cleanser and the 1% BHA. My skin is absolutely LOVING them.

I have also ordered the DR Jart Cicapair Tiger Grass sleep mask. Has anyone has any experience of using this???

Hello! What products do you use at the moment? I’d smuggest adding niacinamide into your routine which is great for sensitive skin too :) The ordinary and then inkey list are both fab brands. See how you go with that then maybe introduce salicylic acid on your chin and forehead perhaps?

I’d always go with a basic moisturiser and spend extra on serums instead, especially as your skin is sensitive like mine! Cerave is great and full of ceramides, the ordinary natural moisturising factors, la Roche posay toleriane... hope that helps! Xx

The Avene soap free gel cleanser changed my skin, I used to have loads of crap under the surface and nothing really got rid of it. This cleanser purged everything (so I was spotty for a few weeks) but once it’s all out it’s amazing.
The ordinary zinc + niacinamide also works well for added blemish healing/prevention.
As for moisturisers, I use a £3 nivea one because it’s the only one that actually moisturises and doesn’t clog my pores. I splashed out on an Origins moisturiser a few months ago, thinking I should get a better one and honestly my skin aged! Went back to the cheapo one and it’s better again 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also the super facialist vitamin c glow boost serum is great at fading spot scarring.
I’m waiting for an order from the body shop, the charcoal mask and vit E eye cream both have good reviews, looking forward to trying them when they eventually turn up.

I would strongly advise emailing The Ordinary and getting them to put together a routine for you. I always used to think moisturisers were the most important things for hydration and fixing skin issues but actually good quality cleansers, acids and exfoliants are usually what make the most difference! The Ordinary are an amazing, affordable starting point and your skin complaints sound easily fixable. I ventured into different products and lines as I have combo, sensitised skin and rosacea so have tried so so many things but starting with The Ordinary was honestly the starting point of me getting my skin on track. You deffo need to get them to put your routine together for you as the products are soooo confusing.

edited to add - if you have sensitive skin, avoid anything with fragrance. Things like rose which are supposed to be calming bloody well aren’t because of all the perfume they shove in. I love paulas choice calm cleanser and bha 1%. Moisturisers you hands down cannot beat drunk elephant Lala whipped cream but it’s so expensive. I used first aid beauty ultra repair instead which is also very good x

Can anyone recommend a good tinted moisturiser type product? For a hint of colour, glow and to even skin tone a bit.

I’ve been mixing a bit of cc cream, a bit of gel highlight and a bit of wash of face tan together but I’m sure there’s something that does all that

Bare minerals tinted moisturisers are lovely, as are Laura mercier. Serum foundations are useful as can build up coverage if needed or keep fairly light and sheer.

I'm currently trying the La Roche Posay 3 step method which is the Effoclear Duo gel/toner/moisturizer ............ my skin has NEVER looked worse, so many white heads have appeared and sore under the skin lumps.... do I continue with it? Spent so much money on it would be such a shame but my skin is awful now - wondering if it's a purging thing...is that a thing?! Very dry now too and red spots.

I’ve been loving reading this thread from start to end. I have a question re The Ordinary products and specifically their retinoid ones. I want to add in retinol into my skincare routine. I now have normal/combination skin but worried about any irritation in terms of breakouts. Whilst I only get the occasional hormonal spot now I had an awful breakout almost 7 years ago which has left me cautious about adding in new products. I’ve noticed the granactive retinol is constantly sold out, should I start with the retinol with squalane 0.2% and then move up to 0.5%? Thank you!

how long have you been doing it? If you’re only a few weeks in I’d persevere. I used effaclar duo for years and it was great. Every product I’ve used that had made a significant improvement to my skin has made it purge first, just think all the yucky stuff under the surface is coming out, once it’s out you get way less spots/bumps etc.

I've been using it less than a week but obviously really nervous as it's made my skin so horrible, it feels like a reaction but maybe it isn't? I will try and persevere!
