Abuse... SENSITIVE

Needing some advice and not sure where to go for this.
Someone who I have a huge personal interest in was arrested several years ago for

CSA, grooming, sending photos and videos, and inciting a child to do things and meeting up. I use the word child because of the age of who they were grooming. The child was alos the same age as their own child.

It's come to light that this person's child is involved in an activity that would mean they're around children the same age,mainly of the same sex but also will have access to the opposite sex of their age and to the age that the arrest occurred. I'm being vague due to the nature of this. I don't believe the coach is aware of the nature of safeguarding surrounding this. Obviously I don't want the child to be penalised for the parents actions, however obviously this means the parent has a huge access to more grooming. Do I ring and ask to speak to safeguard that this parent should not be allowed access to the activity and risk the child being ostracised, or what..... I feel stuck and worried.

Safeguarding is all of our responsibility, 100% notify anyone who needs to know in order to make good choices & protect all children from offenders. Flagging this to a professional in order for them to make good calls is different to gossip or ostracising anyone, unfortunately due to this child’s parent’s actions life will look different for them. But that’s to keep kids, and arguably themselves, safe. Good luck and please let us know how you get on

Thank you @heretoreaditall2019 it's frustrating and a heartbreaking situation for the child. Part of the issue is the parent hasn't been convicted yet,everything seems to be dragging and obviously has access to the child and various professionals seem to be letting the situation down. SS and the police haven't been supportive in it at all really. I'll see if I can make an in person appointment with the coach as I feel that would be better to explain than over the phone.

Shocked and appalled that this can fall through the cracks like this, you’re defo doing the right thing. Fwiw no parent would think you’re doing the wrong thing, if this was a situation at a place my LO attended I would be SO grateful that another parent had flagged it.

That's the hardest part, there are so many CSabusers walking around and you wouldn't know. It infuriates me that the parent is allowed access to the child unsupervised when the professionals know that this parents preference is around that age and younger. Basically giving access.
